Petites beat Stratford
STRATFORD - The Exeter
and District Petites got back into
winning form in Stratford Satur-
day while displaying their new
sweaters which are sponsored by
Becker Farm Equipment.
The locals came out deter-
mined to win, after dropping
their last game 14-3.
Both teams had many scoring
opportunities within the first 10
minutes of end-to-end play, but
Cheryl Wein started the scoring
for Exeter with Theresa Wil-
helm assisting.
Stratford responded with two
quick ones from Ashleigh Mar-
tin, and Wilhelm combined
again with 24 seconds remaining
in the first, to tie the score.
The second period started with
close action, but Exeter pulled
ahead late in the period with
Amy Edwards slamming in two.
Shawna Rowe chalked up an
assist. Emily Hartman scored to
bring Stratford within one. Tere-
sa Stire answered quickly for
Exeter on a lone shot to finish
the game:5-3 for Exeter. Tracy
Taylor played well in net for Ex-
eter.

Male. Panthers
start season

WOODSTOCK - The Senior
Boys' basketball at South Huron
District High School opened their
season on the weekend with two ex-
hibition games ip Woodstock. The
Panthers split 'games, defeating
Woodstock Huron -Park 63-43 and
dropping their second game 64-42
to Woodstock Collegiate Institute.
Against Huron -Park, the boys
easily dominated play. They led
40-24 at half-time and continued to
outplay their opponents, winning
63-43.
Rob Pearen scored 21 points to
lead the Panthers. Rob Wonnacott
followed with 18 and Tim McAllis-
ter added 12.
In their second game of the day,
the Panthers managed . to hold
Woodstock Collegiate to a 31-24
count at half-time. But their oppo-
nents pulled ahead and took the 64-
42 win.
Pee Wees win
squeaker 3-2
EXETER - Last Wednesday
night, the Exeter Legion Pee Wees
scored three times in the last period
and sneaked away with a 3-2 win
over Lucan at the South J•turon Rec
Centre. Lucan got on the board first"
when Darryl Boshart scored from
Steve Dame at 3:25 of the opening
period. .•
It stayed like that until Andrew
Hem scored for Exeter, from Chris
McDonald and Ben Armstrong, a
power -play goal at 1:53 of the final
frame.
Exeter took the lead for good just
over a minute later on Ian Jean's
goal from Sean McCann and Gavin
Snell.
Exeter'gaineda two -goal cushion

Hoffman 'scored. from Marty De-
bruyn. •
Lucan got back back to within a
goal at 3-2 on Shawn Fairweather's
unassisted goal at 6:37 of the third
but th y could not get the tying
goal.
Next game for Exeter is tonight,
Wednesday, when Parkhill will be
at the SHRC at 6:30 p.m.
McAllister led scoring with nine
points, Wonnacott had eight, Pcaren
had seven and Mike Zimmer con-
tributed six. •
On the weekend the Panthers will
be hosting their annual invitational
tournament. Several teams from the
area will be taking part. First game
of the tournament is at 3:30 p.m.
on Friday. First game for the Pan-
thers will be at 8 p.m. Friday night
against Laurier.
Consolation Championship will
be played Saturday at 3 p.m. while
the main Championship game is
scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Lady Panthers lose in semis

STRATFORD - Last week,
South Huron District High
School's Junior and Senior Girls
basketball teams ended their seasons
in semi-final playoff action.
The Junior Panthers were defeated
' 59-20 by Stratford Northwestern
and the senior girls lost a disap-
pointing 32-27 game to the Strat-
ford Central Rams.
After losing to Central 54-31 in
league during the season, South
Huron's senior girls team played
one of the best games of their sea-
son against the Rams last Wednes-
day.
The score remained within a
three-point margin throughout the

Michelle Ellison led scoring for
South Huron with 11 points fol-
lowed by Christine Rose with six
and Michelle Caers added five.
The Junior girls were defeated by
Stratford Northwestern Huskies 71-
16 in league play and in the semi-
final game, last Tuesday, the girls
managed to hold the Huskies to a
59-20 win.
Stacey Rader was South Huron's
topscorer with eight points and
Becky Morgan had six.

Parkhill wins Novice Tournament
EXETER - The Parkhill Novice
Hockey team won three straight
games to take the Exeter Novice
CC" Tournament, which was
sponsored by Frayne Chev-Olds in
Exeter, at the South Huron Rec
Centre Saturday.
The eventual tournament winners
beat Clinton, the tournament conso-
lation champs, 3-1 in their opening
game, beat the host Exeter team 7-2
in their second tilt and defeated
Port Stanley 3-2 in the champion-
ship game.
In the first game of the tourna-
ment, the host Exeter Waxers team
beat the defending champs from
Lucan 2-1 in overtime.
Scoring for the winners were;
Sean Guenther from Brian Parsons
and David Marshall got the unas-
sisted winner in overtime.
Scou Thompson answered for
Lucan with an unassisted goal.
In the second game, Parkhill took
care of Clinton 3-1, with Ryan
Holden getting a pair for the win-
ners and one coming from Jeremy
Jennison, while Mike Eagleson,
Mat Kustermans and Dean Van
Hooyponic drew assists.
Jon Miller had the lone Clinton
goal.
Lambeth beat Strathroy 6-2 in the
third game while Ridegtown lost to
Port Stanley 4-3 in the final game
of the regulation play.
In the first game on the consola-
tion side, Clinton powered its way
past Lucan 4-1. Miller had a pair
for Clinton, while single goals were
scored by Berton Dykstra and Jeff
Heipel.
Ben Dobble had the lone Lucan
tally, from Joe Morley.
In the other game on the consola-
tion side, Ridgetown doubled
Strathroy 6-3, which moved Clin-
ton into the runners-up champion-
ship contest against Ridgetown.
Clinton edged Ridgetown 2-1 to
take the consolation title, geeing
goals from Dykstra and Pat Colli-
gan.
Exeter took on Parkhill in the
first game on the winner's side but
lost 7-1.
Exeter opened the scoring with
Parsons' goal from Scott Gilfillan,
but Parkhill scored seven unan-
swered goals to take the game.
Scoring for the winners were; Tony
Willemsie from Ryan Holden, Ja-
son Sadler from Eagleson, Holden
from Jennison and Willemsie, Kus-
termans from Willemsie, Jarrod
Hatfield from Eagleson and Shawn
Battram, Willemsie from Holden
and Holden from Willemsie.
In the other game on the winner's
side, Port Stanley advanced -to the
championship game by defeating
Lambeth 4-3.
In the title game, which Parkhill
won 3-2, the winners were led by
Holden who recorded the hat trick,
while Willemsie, Kustermans, and
Eagleson had one assist each.

EXETER - The league -leading
Lucan Irish scored four times in the
first eight minutes of play and beat
the Exeter Hawks 7-3 Friday night
at the South Huron Rec Centre.
The win extended Lucan's un-
beaten streak to 11 games to' start
the season, while it was the first
loss in six games for the Hawks.
Last Wednesday night, the Irish
played the second -place Mitchell
Hawks to a 7-7 draw at the Lucan
Arena to stay unbeaten.

Van Kerkle picked up the assists.
But Lucan followed that up with
a goal by Darren Neil from Andy
Ross and Jamie Pearce at 1:03, and
Greg Deprest made the Hawks fans
very unhappy with a pair of goals,
one at 3:27 and another at . 7:26.
The first goal was set up by Ross
and Pearce, while the second was
unassisted.
Waxers tie St. Marys
EXETER - The Exeter Novice Waxers Shamrock Hockey League
team played in their annual tournament on the weekend, which was
sponsored by Frayne Chev-Olds, winning their first game but lost to
the eventual tournament champs from Parkhill in their next game.
Last Sunday, November 12, Exeter played St. Marys to a 2-2 draw
in St. Marys. '
In that game, Exeter trailed 2-0 after one period but rallied for a
single goal in the second and one in the third to gain the tie.
Dave Rikhtegarzadeh and Terry Miles scored for St. Marys in the
first.
Dave Marshall answered for Exeter in the second from Greg Geof-
frey and Marshall clicked again in the second from Scott Gilfillan
and Geoffrey. -
Exeter goalie Cain Dougall played well between the pipes fpr the
locals.
Exeter won their first game of the.tournament 2-1 in overtime over.

Scott Thompson scored an unassisted goal for Lucan in the first
period.
Sean Guenther's goal from Brian Parsons tied the game in regula-
tion before Marshall connected for the unassisted overtime winner.
This was one of Exeter's most exciting games so far this season
and no penalties were called in the game.
The tournament champs proved too much for their hosts in the
second game, losing 7-1.
Parsons gave Exeter an early 1-0 lead but Parkhill scored twice lat-
er in the first, twice more in the second and added three. in the third.
Pee Wees destroy
Strathroy 9-2
EXETER - The Exeter Pee Wee
hockey team of the Lambton-
Middlesex league destroyed Strath-
roy 9-2 in league play Saturday af-
ternoon.
Each team scored once in the first
period, with Exeter's goal coming
off the stick of Bryce Hann from
Geoff Hann and Adam Wallis.
Exeter connected twice more in
the second frame. Scott Inson tal-
lied from Wallis and Geoff Hann
clicked for an unassisted tally late
in the'second
Strathroy scored its last goal in
the middle frame.
. The winners broke open the 3-2
game with six unanswered goals in
Lucan made it 5-0 when Hayter
scored from Neil and Deprest at
6:04 of the second.
Exeter finally got on the board at
9:35 of the middle period when
Jean-Paul Cousincau scored from
Mark Reid and Larry Lewis.
Deprest completed his hat trick at
1:14 of the third when he scored
from Ross and Neil.
Exeter countered and cut the lead
in half with the next two goals, by
Doug Clark and Jesse Henderson,
but any comeback attempt was sup-
pressed when Neil got his second
of the game, from Ross and De--
prest, with two minutes left to play.
Lucan 7 Mitchell 7 .
Mitchell rallied for three . third -
period goals in this game to gain
the tie, after traling 6-4 at the sec-
ond intermission.
Brian Schuyler had a pair for the
Irish, while singles went to Weish-
ar, Deprest, Jeff Hirtzell, Brian
Reath and John McEachern.
Weishar set up three of the seven
Lucan goals, while one assist each
went to McEachem, Ross, Tim
Hayter, Glen Marshall, Todd
Hayter, Scott Mackey, Kevin
Leitch and Reath.
Each coach used both goaltenders
in the game.
Lucan trailed 4-3 after one peri-
od, but rallied to take a 6-4 lead af-
ter the second intermission.
The Irish record now stands at 9-
0-2, good for a three-point lead
over the second -place Mitchell
Hawks.
Next action for the Irish is to-
night, Wednesday, when Exeter
makes its 'first visit to the Lucan
Arena at 8:15 p.m. .
Friday night the Irish travel to the
Mitchell Arcna for .an 8:30 p.m.
