Children and adults enjoy Thames Road Baby Band. party

THAMES ROAD - Melonie
Miller welcomed nine adults and 17
children to the baby band party on
Saturday aftemoon at the church.
Everyone did an exercise to start
the program. Rebecca Miller played
Away In A Manger and everyone
sang.
Marilyn Vandenbussche read a
Christmas story.
Melonie presented each one with
a graduation card and a gift. Those
graduating were Robyn Ethering-
ton, Ann Marie Hodgert and David
Vandenbussche into Messengers.
The offering was taken by Amy
Hodgert.
The children and mothers and
leaders did some nice Christmas
crafts. Lunch was enjoyed. Melonie
Miller and Marilyn Vandenbussche
are the leaders.
Church Service
Rev. Sheila Macgregor was in
charge of the church service on
Sunday morning. Sheila gave the
children's message "The Specialness
Game".
The children all stayed at the front
of the church while Rev. Sheila
baptized Timothy John, son of Ron
end Ma. Lou Bilcke. Godparents
were Eric Gaiser and Cheryl Bilcke
Timothy,has a brother Corey and
grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Silvere
Bilcke and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Grigg.
Bill Rohde clerk of session pre-
sented Timothy with a New Testa-
ment and Baptism Certificate. Rev.
Sheila presented Mary Lou with a
bouquet of flowers. Rev. Sheila's
sermon was entitled "God Is The
Hero".
The flowers in the church on
Sunday were placed in memory of
the late Allan Harkes of RR 4 Si.
Marys near Uniondale who passed;
away recently. Sympathy is extend-
ed to his wife, family and parents.
He was in his 30th year. Rev. Shei-
la assisted at the funeral.
Confirmation class is cancelled
for this week only. Special confir-
mation classes will be visits to St.
Peters Basilica and the Muslim
Mosque on Saturday December 16.

Presentation
On Thursday evening 20 people
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon McCarter to present
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stewart with a
gift after having moved to Exeter.
Euchre was played and prizes were
won by ladies high Lorraine Alex-
ander, Men's high Glen Stewart,
ladies low, Margaret Stewart,
men's low Michael Stewart. Glen
Lamport read a nicely worded ad-
dress.
Personals
Glenn Jeffery is enjoying a bus
trip sponsored by Transfer Genet-
ics, Canadian agents of Select
Sires, and Select Embryos, visit-
ing various Jersey farms through
the state of Ohio.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stewart of
Sarnia were Sunday supper guests
with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stewart.

Concert follows turkey dinner

CENTRALIA - At the United
Church on Sunday Rev. Carter
chose as her topic "Hang In There"
with special music by the choir.
Coming events
On Wednesday, Bible study con-
tinues at 8 p.m. at the manse.
On Thursday evening an Official
Board meeting at 8 p.m. at Central-
ia. All members of the board from
both churches are urged to attend.
On the same evening Youth
Group gots bowling 6;30 to 8 p.m.
On Sunday, December 3 new
members will be received into the
church by baptism or transfer from
other congregations. If interested
contact Rev. Carter before that
date.
Turkey supper
A lovely turkey supper was
served at the United Church on Sat-
urday . evening to members and
friends, followed by an old-
fashioned concert which was en-
joyed by all present. Rev. Carter
and Brent Caslick were M.C.s for
the evening, opening with a sipg-
song with organist at the piano.
. Lois Wilson and Don Stuart sang
a duet. The Skinner family with
Scott on the drums and Jacquelin
sang a solo with Grandpa Sam with
his puppets.
A solo by Hannah Carter, a mens
quartet, music on guitar by Harvey
Smith accompanied by daughter
Penny, and a solo by Audrey
McFalls followed. A comical skit
of ladies on a wedding party por-
trayed by men of the congregation
caused much laughter with their
drcss and pose. (Hope I didn't mis*
anybody who took part.)

tee met on Tuesday November 14.
The New Year's Eve tickets are now

Varna UCW
The Varna UCW executive met
last week to set up dates, programs
and budgets for 1990!
The UCW donates and supports
many organizations and groups
such as Medical Electives, Liaison
Committee, SeCds for Zaire, Survi-
val Through Friendship House,
Clinton Hospital Auxiliary, Dr.
Graham's Homes, Brucefield Vaca-
tion Bible School, Youth Group,
Sunday School, andy Francis Na-
tive Ministry, Town and Country
Homemakers, Missions and Servic-
es, Family and Children's Services,
Camp Menestung, Alcohol and
Drug Concerns and the Resource
Centre.
Youth Group
Varna -Goshen Youth Group
meets at Varna Church at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday November 23. They en-
joyed curling in Vanastra on Satur-
day.
White Gifts
Sunday November 26 will be the
White Gift Service in both Varna
and Goshen with the Sunday
Schools taking part in the service.
Gifts to the Huron'County Christ-
mas Bureau should be labelled on
the outside of a plain white enve-
lope and white gifts will also be ac-
cepted.

ioined with 21 relatives and friends
as the guests of Harry and Marian
Noels at the United Church Beef
supper. Afterward we returned to
the commons room at Harry's apart-
ment for cards and fun. Thank you
Harry and Marian for such a lovely
evening.
