'Autumn Splendor' theme at Emmanuel
EXETER - The ladies of Emma-
nuel Baptist Church held their Fall
Fellowship on Thursday, Novem-
ber 15. The theme was Autumn
Splendor with the key verse being
Psalm 29:2 N.I.V. Ascribe to the
Lord the glory due his name; Wor-
ship the Lord in the splendor of his
holiness.
The ladies were welcomed by
Blanche Rundle who also intro-
duced Karen Gaul and Judy Dal-
rymple of Anstett's Jewellers. Thev
gave a very interesting presentation
focusing on the fashion aspect of
jewellery.
Mrs. Janet Krahn graciously
filled in for guest soloist Mrs. Syl-
via Fry who was unable to attend.
Janet sang Great is Thy Faithful-
ness and Shepherd of My Heart.
Mrs. Gerda Rutledge introduced
the guest speaker Mrs. Pat Haas of
Cambridge. Pat shared some of her
life's experiences and how God had
provided through friends. Pat had
brought several gifts with her
which she passed out to ladies dur-
ing her talk; each had a special
meaning of ways of being a friend.
She said if you can't do anything
else you can always be a friend.
The ladies were served lunch in
the fellowship room which was
also decorated in the Fall theme.
Many ladies from the community
attended despite the wintry weather
conditions.
Second City coming to Blyth
•BLYTH - The Second City Na-
tional Touring Company will be
bringing their delightfully wacky,
wicked and off -beat sense of hu-
mour to the theatre in their debut
appearance at Blyth Memorial Hall,
Laughter will be the first order of
business on December 9, 1989 at
8:00 p.m. as these consummate co-
medians act their way through
some of Second City's most popu-
lar skits. Already the show in Blyth
is almost sold out because of the
popularity of this zany and energet-
ic bunch of comedians.
Second City originated in Chica-
go in 1959, with a Toronto venue
opening in 1973 and the formation
of the Second City National Tour-
ing Company in 1976. Among their
illustrious alumni are such comedy
stars as the Belushi brothers, Dan
Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, John Can-
dy, Andrea Martin and Dave Thom-
as just to name a few. All of these
wonderful comedians have gone on •
to successful careers on stage and
screen.
. The Second City troupe specializ-
es in improvisition and offers the
audience a chance to double as
comedy writers. The Second City
gang takes suggestions from the au-
dience on anything from music,
current affairs to local events and
transforms them to on the spot pro-
ductions usurill) with unexpected
and hilarious .,;sults. Nothing is sa-
cred to these creators of laughter as
they entertain, tease and amuse
their audiences. Pre -rehearsed com-
ic sketches round out the evening
of entertainment by the National
Touring Company.
Second City marks the final per-
formance in the Blyth Festival of
Entertainment series this year. Only
a few tickets remain for the Second
City performance at Blyth Memori-
al Hall. Tickets are now on sale at
