WI responds to memories of war
- By Jean Hodgins
CLANDEBOYE - Mrs. Alan Hill
was hostess for the November
meeting of the Clandeboye Wom-
en's Institute. Twelve members -and
three visitors were present.
The roll call was "War Memo-
ries", which brought forth varied
memories of loved ones overseas,
how the folks coped at home with
rationing of gasoline; butter, sugar,
tea, coffee, etc. and how boxes
were packed and shipped overseas
to the servicemen. Many socks
were knitted for the Red Cross.
Ruth Hill as convener of "Inter-
national Affairs" introduced guest
speaker Mr. Joe Lynch, a war vete-
ran and retired History -English
teacher from North Middlesex Dis-
trict High School.
He gave a most interesting histo-
ry lesson as he explained what led
up to World War II and year by
year as the war progressed in Eu-
rope.
Mr. Lynch was with the Canadi-
an Army through Italy, Sicily, Ger-
many and Holland.
Hazel Cunningham thanked Mr.
Lynch and presented him with a
small gift of appreciation.
Edie Worthington, an English
war bride of World War II and a
member of Clandeboye W.I. gave a
reading, "Those Who Sleep in
Flanders" and "The Story of the
Poppy".
