After three games in the Senior A loop it hasn't worked out that way. Sunday night they reached dou- ble figures for the second -straight time and defeated the Chatham Varco Maroons by a 12-3 count. A week earlier, the Mohawks pound- ed the Lambeth Flyers 13-1 and the Mohawks opened the season with a 7-4 win in Chatham against the Maroons October 11. The Maroons were .missing sev- oral key players Sunday night which played a big part in the Mo- hawks wiii. "We had two guys on suspension and 't couple more guys just missed th !t is bound to happen in Sc. fockey, I mean you can't force ttie guys to play, but we can't come with half a bench and expect to beat a good team like this," said Maroon's assistant coach Mark Gil - hula. Mohawk coach Dave Revington said he 'expected a tougher match from the Maroons but added the key was a five-minute power play Chatham had when Mohawks' Jack Thornton was off serving a major for fighting mid -way in the first pe- riod. The Mohawks had scored a pair of short-handed tallies and Chatham tallied once. "Things were made easier for us with their short bench but I think af- ter we scored twice when they had the five-minute advantage it really wore them down," said Revington. (Revington also said he didn't want to run up the score too high because, "it gives the opposition in- centive for later in the year". Neither team had many shots in the game, just 12 for Chatham and 23 for the Mohawks, but Exeter made good on most of their chanc- es, even though they controlled most of the play during the game. Joe Scherer led the way with a five -goal performance, followed by a hat trick from Quincy Wilkcr and singles went to Greg Snyder, Gord Brooks, Jeff Shipley and Jeff Carr. Brooks had four set-ups, three each to Kris Bedard and Dave Ran- dcrson, a pair to Shipley and sin- gles to Paul Barton, Jeff McClena- ghan, Bill Glover, Scherer, Jeff Warren and Barry Baynham. The next game for the Mohawks will be Sunday night when the Lambeth Flyers make a return visit to the SHRC at 7:30 p.m. The Mohawks had the 1989/90 program on sale hot off the press at Sunday's game. It is one of the fin- est programs in all of hockey and is packed full of player profiles and information about the Mohawks. It will be on sale at all Mohawk home game for SI and this year the team will have a special draw for a prize from programs sold each night. * Hawks back on winning ways SEAFORTH - The Exeter Hawks got back on their winning ways last week, victorious in both games on the weekend. Alan Blommaert set up three of the goals, Lewis and Shackleton -t pair and single assists went to Joe Weston, Hearn, Jim Dickins, Paul Manders, and Taylor. The teams traded goals early in the third,- Taylor for Exeter from Hearn and Jesse Henderson, before Wellesley took a 5-4 lead with just over five minutes left to play. The Hawks are expected to have Jean-Paul Cousineau in the lineup for Friday's game at the South Hu- ron Centre when the Mitchell Hawks will be in town, aftcr he quit the St. Marys Lincolns Junior B team last week. Cindy Moore netted one more to give the Panthers an earl), -yet vcry convincing 3-0 lead. Later in the first half of play, Marcie Ellison picked up a goal from the top of the penalty circle on a short corner. The second half of play saw many new Panthers on the field who played extremely well not al- lowing their opponents to narrow the 4-0 margin of victory. Tonya Riehl recorded SH's shut- out. The Panthers automatically ad- vance to the Western Ontario (WOSSA) tournament to be held on Friday. 0 imply Irresistible Window Coverings 11111111 (\I Yrs rom country to traditional, contemporary is formal or casual to classic - no ono handles the details of the fine window fashions, co-ordinated wall coverings and ' .' accessories bettor than the people at Universal Interiors.
