Veri
donates
land to
church
EXETER - The major fundrais-
ing project to help build a new
Catholic church in Exeter was
kicked off last Wednesday when
ground was broken for construction
of a prize home.
The Precious Blood Building
Committee accepted the donation
of a plot of land in 'north Exeter
from developer Len Veri. A home
worth approximately $160,000 will
be built on the property with much
of the materials and labour donated
to the cause by local contractors
and businesses.
The home will become the prop-
erty of the winner of an elimination
draw next July. The building com-
mittee, chaired by Joanne Ben-
gough, expects to sell 3,000 tickets
at $100 each. After expenses are
deducted, the draw still represents
a substantial source of funds for the
new church to be built at Sanders
and Marlborough Streets in the
next few years.
The 1,300 square metre church is
projected to cost about $900,000,
half of which must be raised by the
Exeter. congregation. The other
half will be contributed by the dio-
cese.
