MAI LPOSTE Canada Post Corporation Societe canadienne des poste: Christmas Seal Campaign STRATFORD - The Annual Christmas Seal Campaign begins November 1. Each year the Lung Association sends a package con- taining specially designed Christ- mas Seals to 56,000 households in the Huron -Perth area. "'I`tie goal for the 1989 campaign in Ontario is $4.5 million," states Executive Di- rector Betty Hunter. "The goal for Huron -Perth Counties is $67,000. This year's package features Eliz- abeth and her dog Farley, the de- lightful cartoon characters from everyone's favourite cartoon For Better or For Worse created by Lynn Johnston. Our children are our future, and Elizabeth represents. the Lung Association's efforts to teach our children about good lung health, The Lung Association is a volun- tary community-based organiza- tion. Your donations will be put to good use in the Huron -Perth area. The aim is to meet the needs of our community, A good example of this is the new Air Force Asthma Program which was introduced in late 1988. This program is de- signed to help children with asthma and their parents learn to cope with their condition so that they may lead full active lives. While the fight to gain a smoke- free society is going on in one cor- ner, the Lung Association also helps people withchronic lung problems. Better Breathing Clubs provide people suffering from C.O.L.D. (Chronic. Obstructive Lung Disease) with the opportunity to -find out how to live a more satis- fying life. They learn that knowl- edge about . their medication and ' regular exercise can improve their well-being and their ability to cope with their disease. The sad fact for. emphysema sufferers is that there is no cure - yet. "When you see the suffering ex- perienced by people with lung dis- ease it makes you realize how im• - portant it is to educate our children about the importance of good lung health," says Dr. Doug Thompson, Medical Director. The Lungs are for Life School Program is a major effort by the organization to reach our young people. It is critical that our youth have the knowledge about the importance of healthy lungs, and how smoking damages the lungs. From the very young through all the age groups, the Lung Associa- tion is in the community educating and helping through its programs. "Just think what your gift can do. Each Christmas Seal you place on . mail and parcels may mean that a group of people in }'our arca will re- ceive help," states Dr. Thompson, "and that more and more children will learn to take care of their lungs. Please show that you cart and our community will benefit." Lungs are for life.
