Learning curling - Sunday afternoon the Exeter Curling Club put on
its annual clinic for beginning curlers. About eight people showed up
to try and learn the sport. Wes DeRosier is shown here learning the
proper sliding technique under the watchful eye of Bill Brock. The
clinic was so successful they plan on holding another one in Novem-
ber.
Panthers at WOSSA

WINGHAM South Huron Dis-
trict High School's cross country
team had all 19 runners compete at
the Western Ontario Regional
(WOSSA) meet in Wingham last
Friday. Although none of the Pan-
thers qualified for the Ontario Re-
gionals (OFSAA) they all ran well.
SH's OFSAA hopefuls, the seniors
girls' team had two competitors fin-
ish in the top 20 and placed fourth
as a team. Carrie -Lynn Ducharme
. brought in the best individual plac-
ing of 15th, Kim Van Dongen, run-
ning on an injuried knee, still man-
aged an 18th place finish. Charlene
Regier finished 30th, Victoria Bis -
back 31st, Anna Szabo 32nd, Linda
Wallis 53rd and Lori Parker 65th as
well.
In the Junior boys' division, the
Panthers finished ninth as a team.
Brett Rideout led his team with a
45th finish and Dan Vanderlaan
came in 49th. Shawn McFalls
brought in a 63rd place finish, Da-
vid Schwindt a 65th, Skip Pavlick
1034d and JimAhrens 108th.
Scott Wellington placed 34th and
Andrew Oswald 51st for the Pan-
' ther's Senior boys.
Jamie Ramer, Jamie Dougall and
Matt Miller placed 35th, 36th and
78th respectively for their efforts on
the Midget boys' course.
Panthers hang on

MITCHELL - South Huron Dis-
trict High School's Junior and Sen-
ior boys' volleyball teams held onto
their first and second -lace standings
in the Huron -Perth league after a
successful league tournament held
in Mitchell last week.
Despite one disappointing loss to
Mitchell and one to Goderich, the
Junior Panthers played well advanc-
ing their record to 20-4.
Against Mitchell, the Junior boys
easily took the first win 15-10.
They then seemed to become a little
overconfident said coach, Scott
Halpenny, and took a 15-4 loss.
They proceeded to make a come-
back in the final game, winning 15-
11.
After a 15-10 loss to Goderich in
their first meeting of the day SH
easily took 15-7 and 15-8 victories
over the Vikings.
The Senior Panthers had an ex-
tremely successful day bringing
home ;ix victories.
SH outmatched Mitchell by
straight scores of 15-1, 15-7 and
15:9.
Against Goderich, the Panthers
also performed well coming away
with wins by scores of 15-8, 15-5
and 15-13.
The six wins last week gave SH's
Senior team a record of 19 and 5
good for second place in the Hu-
ron -Perth standings behind the de-
fending provincial champs Strat-
ford Central.
With only six games remaining
before the final Huron -Perth tour-
nament in Stratford on November
9, both of SH's teams hope to keep
their placing in regular season to be
seeded well.
As well, SHDHS has the privi-
lege of hosting the Western Ontario
Secondary School Association
(WOSSA) tournament on Novem-
ber 17 and 18.
Panthers lose to Vikings

GODERICH - Once again, South
Huron District High School's girls
basketball teams came up short
against the Goderich Vikings in
their second meeting in league
play.
' The Senior Panthers played a
much more competitive game
against the Vikings. Despite Gode-
rich's 18-11 point lead at halt time,
South Huron managed to close the
gap slightly in the third quarter. Un-
fortunately, the .Vikings held their
lead defeating the Panthers 33-23.
Michelle Caers played extremely
well and was SH's top scorer with
seven points. Julia Memer had six
points while Christine Rose and Mi-
chelle Ellison added four each.

points each. Stacey Rader and Ker-
ry Manders followed with six
points and Becky Morgan added
four.
SH's Midget girls fell to their op-
ponent 56-31. Although the Pan-
thers managed to score more points
than in thcir first game against the
Vikings, Pat Rowe, felt they could
have performed better than they
did.
Chris Passmore came away with
13 points to lead SH's scoring while
DcAnn Foreman, Becky Hartman,
Chris Schade and Stacey Thurman
added four points each.
SH's girls' basketball regular sea-
son is coming to a close as there are
only three games remaining in the
schedule. All three teams travel to

Crunchers still perfect
EXETER - The Exeter Atom
Crunchers kept their perfect record
intact Saturday when they doubled
the count on Forest 6-3 in Lamb -
ton -Middlesex Hockey League ac-
tion at the South Huron Rec Cen-
tre.
Exeter came out flying in the
game and staked themselves to a 4-
0 lead after one period and coasted
from there.
Mike France opened the scoring
for Exeter in the opening period
with an unassisted goal.
Jeff Inch made it 2-0 with an-
other unassisted goal two minutes
later and just 1.40 after that, Bryce
Hann scorcd from Ryan Fulton.
France got his second of the game
with less than a minute left in the
first.
Hann notched his second of the
contest five minutes into the second
period,' from Trevor Obre and
France got his hat trick later in the
second after taking a pass from
Luke Sims.
Forest got on the board late in the
second period and added the only
two goals of third on winning Exet-
er goalie Michael Schwindt.
Exeter's record improves to 3-0.
Molting Hawks
EXETER - Exeter Molting
Hawks won their only game
of the week 9-0 over Lucan
Flyers to run their season
record to 5-0.
Ken Bergmann led the way
with three goals while Ernie
Ahrens had a pair, while Bob
McDonald, Bob Parsons,
Brian Hodgins and Scott Bur-
ton added single tallies.
Scott Burton, Jim Pfaff,
Walt Tiedeman, Bob McDo-
nald, Bob Jones, and Bob
Parsons each had two assists,
while Ron Moore, Ernie Ah-
rens and Ken Bergmann add-
ed single assists.
Netminder Glen Stire
played an exceptional game
to pick up the shutout.
This week they host Andy's
Old Wrecks in their only
start.

drop two
EXETER The .Exeter Legion
Bantams lost two straight league
games last week.
Exeter lots its first game at home
Wednesday as Ilderton defeated the
locals 5-3.
In the first period Exeter seemed
sure to win as the locals got them-
selves off to a quick 2-0 head start.
But after the club came on the ice
to open the second period, it was
all downhill from there.
The boys gave up five goals in
30 minutes of action to go down to
defeat.
Exeter goals went to Mark Gla-
vin, Ryan Lindenfietd, and Matt
Gardener.with assists going to Fred
Godbolt, Rob Kramer and Jason
Heywood.
Lambeth 4 - Exeter 2
Lambeth has always been known
as somewhat of a 'powerhouse' in
the Shamrock Division and for as
long as one can remember Lambeth
has always trounced on the locals.
However, Exeter came to Lambeth
to play Friday night, Exeter out-
played the 'powerhouse' and came
within two goals of beating them.
After the end of the second pen-
od Exeter was down 2-0. However
once the locals came out in the
third they quickly came back to tie
the game, and. gave themselves
many chances to win. Each team
member is to be congratulated as it
was the best team effort of the sea-
son,
Exeter goals went to Jason Hey-
wood and Pete Gibson with the as-
sists gong to Fred Godbolt and
Fred Steciuk.

Bombers tie Mt. Brydges
EXETER - The Exeter Novice Bombers played Mt. Brydges to a
3-3 tie in Lambton-Middlesex Hockey League action at the South
Huron Rec Centre Sunday.
Mt. Brydges held a slight 2-1 lead after one period, but the locals
came on to score the only goal of the second and each team scored
once in the third.

period, again unassisted and Frieter struck in the third for a short-
handed goal, from Jason Grenier to give Exeter the tie.
Exeter goalie Ryan Sullivan played a strong game making some
fine saves to keep the game deadlocked.
