Balloon winner - Jean Weigand of the Dashwood Friedsburg
Days committee presents a Walkman to five year-old Jonathan
Miller as winner of the balloon launch at the 1989 celebration in
Dashwood. Jonathan's balloon was recoverred in Woburn, Que-
bec, about one kilometre from the Maine border. It's a distance.
of 1,600 kilometres.
Celebrate anniversary

DASHWOOD - The anniversary
of Calvary United Church was cele-
brated Sunday with Rev. John
James of Mt. Forest as guest speak-
er. John is the eldest son of Rev.
Merrill and Helen James who served
as minister here from 1961-68.
John reminisced about life's les-
sons learned while growing up in
Dashwood and since entering the
ministry.
Guest soloist was Everett How-
lett, Lambeth.
Next Sunday Dashwood congrega-
tion will join Emmanuel United
Church, Zurich, for their anniver-
sary at the 10:30 a.m. service. Rev.
David Mack will be the speaker.
Special music will be provided by
"The Trinity Trio" from Thames -
ford.
New books in
Huron County Library exchanged
the books at Dashwood library last
week. There is a,good selection of
children's fiction and non-fiction
plus resource books and adult fic-
tion and non-fiction for all age
groups.
Dashwood and area have had an
influx of new residents, and for
their benefit the library hours are
Wednesday 2 - 5 p.m. and Saturday
9 a.m. - 12 noon.
Personals
Mrs. Marion Rader underwent leg
surgery last Wednesday at Universi-
ty Hospital.
George Tieman has returned from
University hospital to South Hu-
ron.
Erich Freiter returned home Fri-
day from Victoria Hospital. Van
and Laurie Tuckey, Trenton, cele-
brated the baptism of their second
son Mitchell Robert. The ceremony
was held at the Trenton Presbyteri-
an Church. Godparents are Rick and
Cathy Skinner.
Other members of their family
who travelled to Trenton for the
weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Fahner, Grand Bend, Bill and Nancy
Becker and Joe and Nancy Becker,
Dashwood and Ken and Elsie Her-
mann, Exeter.
Mrs. Hope Schein, Boston, visit-
ed for four days with her sister and
brother-in-law Anne and Murray
Reid.
Saturday evening Eben and Mar-
tha Weigand entertained their family
at the new Dashwood Country
Cafe. Twenty-six members enjoyed
the delicious smorgasbord supper.
The occasion was to celebrated Mar-
tha's 80th birthday. An open house
was held Sunday at Don and Jean
Weigand's home. The good weather
brought 112 guests from all parts
of this area and relatives from To-
ronto, Chesley, London and Port
Colbome.
Good Companions
The Good Companions met Oc-
tober 16 for a pot luck supper with
38 in attendance, Two visitors
joined the club, Mrs. Nezda and
Earl Stebbins.
A short business meeting was
conducted by president, Shirley
Preszcator. Thcy decided to give
donations to Stephen Township,
Home Care, Children's Services,
Salvation Army and the Dashwood
Men's Club.
Euchre was played with prizes
given to Pearl Miller, Elda Koeh-
ler, Stan Preszcator, Harold Stire.
Door prize to Edith Baker.
The Senior Fall Rally was held
in Blyth in the afternoon and Mrs.
Alma Genttner, Aldene Wolfe,
Florence Martene, Melvin and Ger-
tie Stade, Emil and Katherine
Becker attended as delegates from
Dashwood. The guest speaker ,'as
Mr, Mansfield, president of the
U.S.C.O.
The spring rally will be hosted
by the Zurich and Hensall clubs.

Investiture Ceremony fores23 Beavers

GRAND BEND - The First
Grand Bend Beavers held their In-
vestiture Ceremony on October 18.
It was a great success with all par-
ents joining m the fun. Eager Bea-
vers Dean Brown, Christopher
Rood, Jaimie Mason, Shawn Lane
and Jason McCann welcomed new-
ly invested beavers Cameron Brit-
ton, Stephan Chandler, Cal De
Lange, Matthew Englert, Tyler
Feagan, Andrew Gray, Brandon
Martens, Jaimie Martens, Jordan
Mason, Daniel Messier, Jonathon
Miller, Lee Musser, Christopher
Oke, Gregory Parks, Christian Re-
louw, Ryan Rood, Michael Van-
bruaene, and Kyle Fusick into our
colony, for a grand total of 23 Ea-
ger Beavers!

Steve Kadlecik, who presented a
neckerchief to each new Eager
Beaver. Thanks to our Group Com-
mittee Karen Squires, Linda Haicui-

Apple Day at the Grand Bend
Farmers' Market was a great suc-
cess for both Beavers and Cubs.
The nature hike at Apple Hills Farm
had to be cancelled due to poor
weather conditions Saturday.
Don't forget the Halloween Cos-
tume Party tonight!
The Cub Scouts will hoki.their In-
vestititure Ceremony on October
26, Thursday evening. They are
also planning a nature hike in the
Pinery Park on Saturday, October Fire Prevention Week. They'll be
