EXETER - Perfect weather last
Wednesday provided for some
competitive racing at South Huron
Distract High School's annual invi-
tational cross-country meet. Four-
teen schools auended the meet and
South Huron's Junior girls took a
second place team finish.
Despite a knee injury that has
forced her to drop out of many rac-
es this season, Kim Van Dongen
came through with a second place
finish on her home course to lead
the junior girls to their second
place team finish.
Carrie -Lynn Ducharme also ran
well placing eighth. Anna Szabo
and Charlene Regier alsobrought
in 18th and 19th place finishes re-
spectively.
As the Panthers' lone midget girl,
Linda Wilson came in 23rd.
Jamie Dougall ran in a.10th place
finish and Matt Miller was 19th in
the Midget Boys division.
The teams only senior runner of
the day, Scott Wellington, managed
to finish in the top 10 with an out-
standing 7th standing.
The Junior boys brought in a
fourth -place team finish and Brett
Rideout led the Panthers placing
15th. Dan Vanderlaan finished 21st
and Shawn McFalls and David
Waxers back on track
EXETER - After a slow start, the Exeter Novice Waxers finally
picked up their first win of the young Shamrock Hockey League sea-
son.
The Waxers lost 6-1 to Strathroy September 30, and 6-2 to Forest
October 8, before picking up their first win, 1-0 over Parkhill Friday
night in Parkhill.
Greg Geoffrey's unassisted, first -period goal was all Exeter need-
ed, thanks to Cam Dougall's shut out goaltending Friday night.
Geoffrey also picked up both goals in the 6-2 loss to Forest last
Sunday. Dave Marshall earned an assist on one of the goals, while
Brian Hayman set up another.
The only Exeter player to find the net in the 6-1 loss to Strathroy
was Ben Cottrell, who was set up by Marshall and Scan Guenther.
Very few penalties were called against either team in all three con-
tests.
Sportsmanlike - These players were given Most Sportsmanlike
Player awards at the Grand Bend Minor Soccer Awards Banquet Sun-
day. Stephanie Krantz, left and Jamie Mason Squirt. missing, Phillip
Carey, Mosquito, R. J. Milne, Pee Wee.

The locals were also one of 61
schools to compete in the Byron
Cross-country meet in London on
Friday.
As SH's only female runner at-
tending the meet, Szabo placed 35th
in the Junior girls category.
Jamie Ramer led the Panthers'
Midget boys with a 34th place fin-
ish and Dougall and Miller fol-
lowed.
Wellington finished 30th in the
Senior boys division of the meet.
Also running were Skip Pavlick,
Vanderlaan, McFalls and Schwindt
for SH's Junior boys.
Volleyball team
improves record

EXETER - South Huron District
High School's Junior boy's volley-
ball team improved their Huron -
Perth record to 17-1 in league play
last Thursday;
South Huron held their- second
regular season league tournament
of the year with St. Mike's of Strat-
ford and Seaforth attending.
The Junior Panthers claimed five
of six possible victories on Thurs-
day, Against St. Mikes, the boys
played rather inconsistently. The
boys took the first win 15-5 but fell
hard 15-1. in their second meeting.
They then returned with a 15-11
victory.
Seaforth proved to be little com-
petition as the Panthers came
through with three straight wins
15-7, 15-8 and 15-13.
SH's Senior boys also had a suc-
cessful day as they took six wins
on Thursday.
Neither St. Mikes nor Seaforth
could keep up with the overpower-
ing Panther team as the locals
swept their matches easily.
The boys took 15-3, 15-10 and
15-9 victories over St. Mikes and
15-2, 15-11, and 15-7 wins over
Scaforth.
Both of SH's boys' volleyball
teams travel to Mitchell on October
24 for another league tournament.

Exeter beats Parkhill
EXETER - The Exeter
MacLeans Mustangs got their
1989-90 season off to a good
start by beating the Parkhill
team 3-1.
Scott Rowe led the local
Pee Wees with a goal and an
assist, Matt Sims picked up
•two assists,. while single
goals were scored by Glenn
Hines and Craig Schwartzen-
truber.
Kenn Hines had a solid
game in goal for Exeter.
Their next game will be in
Forest Friday night.
Broncos -win two more
EXETER - The Exeter Atom
Broncos picked up -two more wins
in Shamrock league play last week.
They defeated Dorchester 7-1 at
the South Huron Rec Centre Sun-
day afternoon and edged Parkhill
3-2 Friday night in Parkhill.
Exeter led 2-1 after one period
Sunday, thanks to two first -period
goals by Jeff Sararas, one unassist-
ed and one from Rob Lynn.
Lynn added the only goal of the
sccond period, from Eric Clay and
Billy Kline, while completing his
hat trick with two more goals in the
third.
Chad Gilfillan set up both of
Lynn's third -period markers. But
Sararas also completed his hat trick
with a goal in the third frame, from
Lynn and Nathan Hern.
Gilfillan had the other goal, from
Jeff MacLean and Dave Farquhar.
Scoring for Exeter in the close
win in Parkhill were; Sararas from
Jeff Mayer, Gilfillan from Clay and
Lynn and Lynn from MacLean and
Sararas.
Jason Lindenfield won both
games in goal for Exeter.
Irish remain unbeaten
WELLESLEY - The Lucan Irish
improved their record to a perfect
3-0 in the young Western Junior D
Hockey League season, with a 8-3
romp over the Wellesley Apple-
jacks in their only game of the
week, Friday night in Wellesley.
Andy Ross led the Irish attack
with a pair of goals, while Jamie
'Pearce, Rick Weishar, Tim Hayter,
Jeff Hirtzell, Jack Legg, and Brian
Schuyler netted one goal apiece.
Greg Deprest contributed three
assists, Joe Febrey had two set-
ups, while Hayter, Hirtzell, Scott
Riddell and Shuyler had one assist
each.
Lucan fired 38 shots at Wellesley
netmindcr Derek Switzer, while
both Lucan goalies, Cal McDonald
and Jason Rivard stopped 23 shots
that were sent their way by Apple-
jack shooters.
Lucan had 15 penalties in the
game, all minors, while Wellesley
had 20 infractions.
Next game for the Irish is tonight,
Wednesday, whcn the Scaforth
Centenaires arc at the Lucan Arena
for an 8:15 p.m. game. Friday night
the Irish travel to Tavistock to take
on the Braves at 8:30 p.m.

TORONTO - On the weekend,
the South Huron field hockey team
played in the Schoolgirls' Confer-
ence Tournament. There were a to-
tal of 150 teams at two locations
and they played over two days.
In the second game, the girls
played Stephen Leacock from Scar-
borough. This team has won OF -
SAA for the past three of four
years and were second last year, so
the challenge was there.
Atoms crunch Mt. Brydges
EXETER - The Exeter Kongs-
kilde Atom Crunchers got their
season off to a good start, blanking
Mt. Brydges, 6-0 in their first game
of the season Saturday, at the
South Huron Rec Centre, scoring
twice in each of the three periods.
Mike France opened the scoring,
from Gavin Poole three minutes
into the game and that was fol-
lowed by Bryce Hann's unassisted
goal later in the first.

In the second period, Hann
picked up his second of the game,
from John Miners and Jeff Mason
and Jeff Inch also scored from Tre-
vor Obrc.
Then in the third, Mike Connell
scored from Inch and Mason and
France clicked for his sccond of the
game, after being set up nicely by
Ryan Fulton and Hann.
Michael Schwindt picked up the
well-earned shutout for Exeter.
