Bantams get season started
EXETER - The Exeter Bantam
"A" hockey club's season is going
again. This year's team has high ex-
pectations and every game the
players go out with something to
prove, after a humiliating season
last -year. ,
The locals in three league games
have gone out and beat last sea-
son's total points. They lost their
first game but have gone undefeat-
ed in their last two.
The club is looking forward to a
successful season. All home games
are played on Wednesday night, at
7:45 p.m. so show some town spirit
and bring your family out to watch
some entertaining hockey.
Forest 7 - Exeter 2
The rusty locals were defeated by
Bullets
lose 4-3
ILDERTON - In their only game
of the week, the Exeter Pee Wee
Bullets were defeated 4-3 in Ilder-
ton Saturday afternoon, in Lamb -
ton -Middlesex Hockey League
play.
Brent Urlin, Trevor Truemner
and Geoff Hann were the marks-
man for Exeter in that contest.
Exeter netminder Jason Clay
played an outstanding game, de-
spite taking the loss.
Forest in their first game of the sea-
son. Both Exeter and Forest lost
their composure several limes dur-
ing ,the game, as there were 110
minutes in penalties from both
teams throughout the match.
Scoring goals for Exeter were
Rob Kramer, and Pete Gibson from
Mark Lynn and Ryan Lindenfield.
Exeter 3 - Thamesford 0
Exeter collected its first win of
the season as goalie Darren Mason
led the team to a shutout last
Wednesday night in Thamesford.
Exeter got the first goal by Rob
Kramer, the assist going to Jason
Heywood.
The last two goals scored by Der-
ek Beckett and Allan McFalls were

Exeter 6 - Parkhill 6
Exeter played a strong first two
periods Sunday but fell short in the
third and allowed Parkhill to tie
them in the final minutes of the
game. Exeter goals were scored by
Ryan Lindenfield, Ryan Stuart,
Fred Steciuk with two and Jason
Heywood with two.
Assists went to Ryan Stuart, Nick
Szabo, Rob Kramer, Steciuk, Fred
Godbolt with 2, and Steve Farquhar
with four setups.
Exeter plays its next game at
home tonight at 7:45 p.m.
Panthers go one for three

STRATFORD - All three of
South Huron District High School's
girls' basketball teams played
league games at Stratford Central'
Secondary School last Thursday.
The Junior Panthers were the only
team to bring home a win for SH.
The Senior girls fell to Central
54-31. Against Central's tough full- -
court pressure in the first half of
the game, the Panthers allowed
their opponents to take a 33-15
lead.
Christine Rose hit the basket a
few times in the last half of play,
but the Panthers fell 54-31 to take
their third loss in league play.
Rose lied SH's scoring with 11
points. Michelle Caers had five
points while Julia Merner and Liz
Mol chipped in with four points
each.
SH's junior girls took the Pan-
thers only win of the day. The lo-
cals had little difficulty defeating
Central 27-15. They took a slight
14-10 lead in the first half of play
but the Panthers outplayed their op-
position in the remaining half of the
game to take the victory.
Stacey Rader was top scorer with
10 points. Becky Morgan followed
with seven points and Kerry Mand-
ers added four.
SH's Midget girls worked hard
against Central but came out on the
bottom of a 35-25 count.
Chris Schade played_ extremely
well going nine for 12 at the foul
line and was the leading scorer with
15 points.
A correction from the October- 4
edition of the T.A. The midget Pan-
thers rather than losing to F.E. Ma-
dill, defeated the Wingham Mus-
tangs 30-29 in league play.
All 4hree of SH's girls' basketball
teams travel to Listowel on
Wednesday for league games.
Midgets split first two
PARKHILL - The Exeter Midget
Generals split their first two games
in the Shamrock Hockey .League
season last week, losing 6-2 in
Thamesford last Wednesday and
winning in Parkhill 5-3 Sunday.
Parkhill led 2-0 after one period,
but Exeter connected for four sec-
ond -period tallies. Theteams split
the two third -period goals.
Scoring for Exeter were; Mark
Burton from goaltender Jason
Clark, Joel Campbell from John
Rooseboom, David Schwindt from
Jamie Cornish, Campbell from Ja-
son Hem and Brett Lammie and
Todd McCann unassisted.
In Thamesford, the home team
took a slight 2-1 lead after one peri-
od, but scored the next three goals
en rout to the easy win.
Scoring for Exeter were; Sean
Kyle from Rooseboom, and
McCrtln from Dave Mack and Greg
Haggitt, both coming while on the
power -play.
Grand Bend runners-up
at Lambton County meet
PINERY PROVINCIAL PARK
- Grand Bend Public School hosted
a regional cross-country meet for
six Lambton County Schools and
the hosts did very well overall, tak-
ing the runners-up position.
Jake Morgan took third place
overall in the Bantam Boys Divi-
sion, running the course, which
was set up around the toboggan
hills at the park, in a time of 11
minutes and 49 seconds, just 14
seconds behind the winner from
Watford.
Eric Clay and Kyle Vermuellen
of Grand Bend, finished eighth and.
ninth respectively, Simon Desjar-
dine was 12th, and Troy Stelling-
werff 23rd.
None of the Grand Bend Bantam
Girls were able to place in the top
five and earn ribbons, but Mayke-
sha Wilde was eighth, and Tracy
Turnbull was ninth.
Grand Bend's Jeremy Wilde and
Clint Boundy were able to get rib-
bons in the Intermediate Boys race,
finishing fourth and fifth respec-
tively just three seconds apart. Bcn
Sandwith was not far behind in
eighth and Liam Karry was 26th.
The closest Grand Bend Interme-
diate Girl from placing was Jenni-
fer MacNeil, who was sixth, while
Andrea Ridley was ninth.
Tommy Maguire was the only
Grand Bend runner to win a race,
taking top spot in the Junior Boys
division in a time of 12:01, fol-
lowed by Jeremy Jennison in fifth,
Jay Wilton in 12th, Joris Wood
15th, Chad Monteith 16th, Craig
Bothwell 18th, Sean Lockwood
27th, Sean Maguire 28th, Bryce
Kadlecik 30th, Ryan Heywood
59th, Jonathan Lovie 60th, Michael
Gutsell 70th, while Shaun Jennison
and Derek Whiting were both dis-
qualified but finished the race.
In the Junior Girls Division, the
top local finisher _ was Melissa
Wilde, who was second, Christine
Went was fourth, Laura Sandwith
was 17th, Brianne Hais} 18th, Jule
Hume 19th, Christy McIntyre 23rd,
Melissa Milam 24th, Caroline Day
35th, Rebecca Pierce 37th and De-
anna Turnbull was 38th.
Trent Stellingwcrtt took second
place in the Senior Boys' race, in
14:48, followed by Josh Vermuel-
len in 12th, and Jason Clay in 17th.
The only Grand Bend runner in
the Senior Girl's race was Sarah
Battersby, who took home a third-
place ribbon, finishing less than 20
seconds behind the race winner.

On the weekend, Christine Rose
led South Huron District High
School's Senior girls' basketball
team to one victory in Medway
High School's annual Invitational
Tournament in Arva.
In pool play, the Panthers met
North Middlesex District High
School for their first game. The
team played extremely well holding
their strong opponents to a 21-10
count after half time and a loss 43-
28 in the contest.
Rose was top scorer for the game
with 12 points and Michelle Caers
and Julie Meurer each had four.
In anextremely-competitive sec-
ond match against Oakridge Secon-
dary School of London, the Pan-
thers came through with a close 43-
41 win.
The girls held a 22-17 lead after
half time and managed to keep the
margin throughout the last half to
take the win.
Rose led the scoring again with a
.career high 18 points and Caers fol-
lowed with 11. Merner added six.
Pee Wees win, lose, tie
EXETER - The Exeter Legion
Pee Wee hockey team went 1-1-1
in three games last week, but the 2-
1 loss in Clinton Sunday didn't hurt
since it was only an exhibition
game.
They also played Parkhill to a 5-5
tie Friday night and blanked Mt.
Brydges last Wednesday 5-0.
Matt Godbolt was the lone
marksman for Exeter in the exhibi-
tion loss to Clinton. It was an unas-
sisted effort. •
Darren Kints was the losing goal-
ie giving up two second -period
goals, but Kints was able to record
the shutout against Mt. Brydges.
Scoring for Exeter in that game
were; Jim Dietrich, from Ian Jean
and Gavin Snell, Snell from Die-
trich and Ben Armstrong, Trevor
Taylor from Craig Schwartzentru-
ber and Andrew Hern, Dietrich
from Ted Hoffman and Snell, and
Steve Stire from Chris McDonald
and Armstrong.
Sean McCann neued all five in
the tie in Parkhill Friday night. Tay-
lor set up two of the goals by him-
self, one goal was unassisted,
McDonald, Godbolt assisted on
McCann's first goal and Snell as-
sisted on the other.
