1989 South Perth Fastball League
season came to a disappointing end
Friday night as they dropped a 3-2,
12 -inning decision to Milverton.
The win gave the host team a 2-1
win in a best -of -three series and the
"B" league championship.
A lack of clutch hitting, which
has plagued the Royals all season,

they managed nine hits and stranddd

out in the second inning and were
unable to score. The lead-off batter
in the 10th inning reached third
base with none out but didn't score.

fourth as "reg Wise led off with a
walk, advance to second on a Brent
Dawson sacrifice and scored on
Scou Brintnell's double off the left.-
field fence. Milverton tied the score
in the bottom of the fourth as Tre-
vor Jutzi singled and scored on
• Randy Wiche's bad hop triple. ,
Exeter regained the lead in the
eighth as Greg Wise doubled and

long home run off Exeter pitcher
Derwyn Hodgins. They won the
game in the eleventh with a single,
a two -base error and a bases -loaded
walk.
Goetz went the distance on the
mou'nd for Milverton, allowing
nine hits, walking five while strik-

complete game for Exeter and he al-
lowed seven hits, walked four and
struck out an amazing 23 batters.
Despite the loss, Exeter enjoyed
its most successful season in a
number of years. Their overall
record, including league play,
playoffs, OASA and tournaments
play was 30 wins and 22 losses.
They reached the zone finals in
OASA play, won the "B" champi-
onship in the Tara Tournament and
finished second in their own tourna-

Hawks split first two games
HENSALL - The Exeter Hawks
split the first two games of the reg-
ular season on the weekend, both
of which were supposed to be
home games. But because of the
ice problems, and construction at
the South Huron Rec Centre, Fri-
day's game against Lucan was
played at the Stephen Township
Arena and Sunday's contest against
Wellesley took place at the Hensall
Arena.
Workers were installing a vapor
barrier inside and steel cladding
outside the SHRC which prevented
the rec staff from putting any ice
in. However that problem should
be over and all users of the Rec
Centre, including the Hawks,
should be able to return there this
week.

EXETER - On Thursday, South
Huron District High School held a
regular Huron -Perth Conference
volleyball tournament. F.E. Madill,
Stratford Central and South Hu-
ron's junior and senior teams par-
ticipated in the tournament.
SH's junior boys advanced their
record to 12-0 in league play. The
Panthers came away with three
straight wins over Stratford Central
by scores of 15-9, 15-2, and 15-4. •
Against Madill, the locals had lit-
tle difficulty swiping wins of 15-
11, 15-2 and 15-8.
Stratford Central, who is compet-
itive in Canadian volleyball play,
proved to be quite a challenge for
the Senior Panthers.
Central took the first win 15-5
but SH gave them a harder time in
their second match. A combination
of effective blocking and back-
court coverage allowed the Panthers
to hold their opponents to a 15-10
count. The Panthers took another
15-5 defeat in their final meeting
with the Rams. However, the Pan-
thers claimed three victories over
Madill with scores of 15-5, 15-6
ind 17-15.

The Irish got that one back three
minutes later when they took ad-
vantage of their own power -play

damage with help from John
McEachern and Joe Febrey.
The game was tied with 2:10 left
