HENSALL - This coming Satur-
day is the day of the Minor Hockey
Skate-A-Thon in Hensall. If you
sponsored skaters they will be
around soon to collect.
Another good cause is the read-a-
thon sponsored by the Hensall
Branch Library to raise funds for
the Public Access Catolgue. The
children will be reading books for
the month of October.
Week of the Child in Hensall is
also approaching fast. Many excit-
ing events are being planned for the
youngsters, including a Movie
night, a dress -up parade and a
Haunted House.
This Sunday is the second annual
Toy Tractor Show and Sale at the
Arena. This Kinsman -sponsored
event was a great success last year
so come out and sec what it's all
about.
Friendship Circle
The Friendship Circle met Mon-
day evening of last week with Lau-
ra Wright as chairperson who pre-
sented slides on .CUSO's work in
India where Marilyn Wright is a
Physical Therapist. .
The group will be visiting.
Queensway October 16 and the 21
for Bingo.
Hazel Corbett opened the devo-
tional with a poem "Autumn".
The next meeting will be No-
vember 6 at 1:30.
Shuffleboard
High six -game winners' for Octo-
ber 3 shuffling were Dave Wood-
ward with 478 and George Dowson
at 405.
Five -game high scores were
racked up by Pearl McKnight at
308, Eileen Dowson 301, Helen
Anderson 286 and John Pepper
with 284.
Ladies Group
The afternoon Ladies Group of
Hensall United Church met Octo-
ber 5.
For the study, Audrey Christie
told of the Venture in Mission pro-
ject through the Mission and Ser-'
vice Fund of the United Church
helping to start small congrega-
tions and build ministries in Nova
Scotia and Alberta.

The church board is meeting on
Thursday at 7:15 p.m. for the exec-
utive and at 8 p.m. for the full
board
Bible study is still meeting on
Sunday morning at 9:15.
New coaches - Hensall Figure Skating club registered its skaters
for the new season on Saturday and were boasting a better tum
out than last year's slightly disappointing enrollment. A new de-
velopment for the Hensall club is this group of girls who attend-
ed
ttended a clinic in Strathroy and are now coaches and assistants for
the canskate program. From left are coach Terri -Lynn Elder, assist-
ants
ssistants Kari Taylor and Dana Cooper, and coaches Richelle Elder,
Jenny Smale, and Leann Consitt. Also assisting this year will be
Anita Phillips and Melissa Masse.
Rest Home set for bazaar, sale

ZURICH - Bob Heywood enter-
tained at the Blue Water Rest
Home Auxiliary meeting last week
with his accordion music. The or-
ganization's annual bazaar, tea and
bake sale is going ahead on Satur-
day November 11 from 2-4 p.m.
Donations to the sale will be appre- I
dated and, of course, the auxiliary
hopes for a big turn -out fora the
event.
The next auxiliary meeting is No-
vember 7 at 7 p.m.
Personals
The St. Boniface kindergarten
class enjoyed a trip to Ducharme's
Apple Orchard on Friday. They
took along some mothers as help-
ers as well as their- teacher Mrs.
Kistner for the sunny day outdoors.
About 40 members of the Zurich
Mennonite Church attended a
Youth Retreat last week at Silver
Lake Camp near Owen Sound.
Donna Klopp, and Phyllis and
Marg Deichert attended a confer-
ence in Waterloo for the Lutheran
Auxiliary held at St. John's Church.
Bobbie Lynn Grenier, daughter
of Brenda and Robert. Grenier was
baptised September 30 at St. Boni-
face Church. William Peter Van-
denBrand, son of Peter and Mary
Brand, was baptised the next mom-
ing.
A welcome to town goes to Joe
and Rose Regier:
Patrick Dennomme and Shelley
Colquhoun were married Saturday
at St. Peter's in St. Joseph. Pat is
the son of John and Bernadette De-
nomme of RR2 Zurich.
