first Oktoberfest in Dashwood on
Thanksgiving weekend.
The doors were open all weekend
at Kaethe's Kaffee House. She
served schnitzel, sausage on a bun
and sauerkraut, potato salad, black
forest cake and pies. Erich donned a
red bib apron. with "Chef Erich"
written on front, but Kaethe claims
he didn't cook, he just washed
dishes and took cash.
Oktoberfest started in Munich,
Bavaria (Germany) at Thanksgiving
which is the first Sunday in October
in Germany. Originally the farmers
would take their produce and crafts
-to the market place and sell their
wares and turn the money to their
church or give it to the needy.
The German people have brought
their traditions to Canada. The
Leamington church where Frieters
were members, still take their tal-
ents and produce to the church and
place their 'gifts on a table. The
money they receive from the table
is turned over to the home for the
aged or given to their missions.
Eric and Kaethe were so thankful
for their first endeavor in showing
the area residents the fun of an Ok-
toberfest in Dashwood. It is to be
hoped Eric and Kaethe will repeat
the same next year.
Last Wednesday Ralph and Mary
Weber, Gordon and Margaret Ea-
gleson, Southampton motored to
Battle Creek, Michigan to visit
their cousin Ray and Muriel
Schroeder of North Dakota who
were visiting their daughter and
husband, Bob and Mardell Barker.

pancakes out of it.
We decided for our party to be
held without our parents. The meal
