ARVA - The Express Express
became Western Ontario Senior D
Baseball League champions after
defeating Lakeside 15=10 Friday
night in Arva in the deciding game
of the best -of -three league final.
The Express dropped the opening

The Express scored early and of-
ten Friday night. They held a 14-4
lead after their half of the sixth in-

Lakeside scored once in the sixth
to make it a nine -run deficit and
kept the game alive.
The Express came up with an-
other run in their half of the sev-
enth inning to make it a 15-5 game
with another chance to end the
game early if they had held Lake-
side scoreless in their half of the
seventh. They came to life and
scored five times that inning,
which put Lakeside behind by only
five runs but were held in check the
rest of the way by the Express, who
held on for the win.
Exeter scored once in the first
frame on just two hits. Kevin Hern
-singled with two out, went to sec-
ond on an error and scored when
Dave Parsons singled.
Five runs came across the plate
for Exeter in the second stanza.

Pete Heeney followed with a walk,
and one out later Darcy Martin
belted a three -run homer. After
Martin's blast, " Rob Dickey and
Barry Baynham singled, with Dick-
ey scoring on Kevin Hern's single
and Baynham scoring on a Lake-
side miscue in the outfield.
Exeter tacked on another in the
third on just one hit. The solo hit
was a one -out triple by Mercer,
who later scored on a passed ball.
The Express scored twice more
in the fourth inning and four times
in the fifth. In the fourth Baynham
led off with a base on balls, and
scored when the next batter, Kevin
Hern, tripled. Hen scored when

the first three goals in the game for
the Mohawks.

Jeff Shipley and Dale Gibbon,
Craig Prydham centered Joe Scher-
er and Greg Snyder, while Jeff
Carr, Gord Brooks and Randy Bai-

Ron Elliot were partnered. Work-
ing in as the fifth defenccman was
Les Arts.

play a lot of regulars because he al-
ready knows what they do. It was a
chance for them to look at some
players that are new to the team.
Starting Mohawk goaltendcr Jack
Noguiera did not look sharp in the
first 35 minutes of the game for
Exeter. After the Mohawks opened
the scoring six minutes into the
contest, the Dolphins came back to
score the next six goals, the last
one coming just five minutes into
the second period, before Noguiera
