Attention Veterans and their de-
pendents - Branch 540, L4can has
an experienced Service Bureau Offi-
cer visiting the Branch on Tuesday.
October 12 at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Mel
Harper has many years experience
in Veterans rights i.e. War Disabil-
ity Pension, War Veterans Allow-
ance etc. etc. This is a free Legion
service. Why not take advantage of
it.
Many of our veterans say 'The •
war has been over for 45 years, it's
too late to make application. now'.
How wrong you are!!! It is amaz-
ing how many are being ,allowed
and Mel Harper is just the man to
assist you. Make your appointment

may be glad that you did.
Unfortunately the weather didn't
co-operate with us last Saturday for
our first amateur vocal competi-
tions, however those who did at-
tend really enjoyed themselves and
had a good time. Branch 540 have
decided to give it another try at
7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30.
Make a special effort to attend,
your Committee is trying to put
on programs which are entertaining
and .furrfor all. Only your atten-
dance and particiaption will make.

every Thursday evening at 7:00
p.m. We have six pits to serve

St. Pat's CWL supper
LUCAN - On Wednesday, Sep-
tember 20, St. Patrick's, Lucan,•
C.W.L. hosted a pot -luck supper
for Church members and also invit-
ed guests from all the surrounding
Churches. Mrs. Sue Barr of Lucan
who is a member of "Families for
Children" and has a couple of adopt-
ed chi;dren through them, was the
guest speaker.
She spoke about their spring trip
to Bangladesh with Roshana (their
adopted daughter from there) with
other parents and children who are
members of "Families for Chil-
dren". The trip was arranged partly
to expose these children to their
roots and also to celebrate the open-
ing of Ai new "Children's Villa: " '
outside the city of Dacca operatcd
by "Families for Chil,lrrn". She
showed slides to acconnl her
talk.
We learned a I. out Bangla- .
desh, the organization "Families for
Children" and also how fortunate
we here in Canada arc; also how
fortunate the children of Bangladesh
and other countries are that organi-
zations like "Families for Children"
try to help at least the children and
young adults in various . ways to
overcome their grinding poverty.
The C.W.L. is running a bus trip
to the Ford Museum on Wednesday,_
October 11, we have about 10 seats
left, so if anyone in the community
would like to join us, please call

There is a spectacular quilt exhi-
bition on until the end of the year
McCord quilts - this -lady lived in
the States during the last century,
was a farm wife, had 7 children, had
her own garden, made her own but-
ter and soap and was a homeopathic
expert - just an all round great lady.
She made dozens of quilts with
fantastic designs on them and exqui-
sitely executed. She worked hard all
her life and was still milking cows
at the age of 80! Please call -if you
would like to join us. We plan to
leave at 8 a.m. and be home by 9
p.m. Cost: $25 and this includes
admission into the museum.

LUCAN - The president wel-
comed everyone and the meeting
opened with "0 Canada" played by
Mary Kooy.
The minutes were read and ap-
proved. Birthday greetings were ex-
tended to Charlotte Barker and Mar-

Hazel Cunningham reported the
one day bus trip to Midland will be.

Lucan Seniors were invited to at-
tend a barbecue October 23 at 6
. p.m. at the Legion Hall. Every-
thing will be free.
The entertainment was much en-
joyed. A pocm was read by .Jean
Warner about Seniors. Mona May-
berry recited a poem she composed
while crossing the prairies.
__Hazel -Cunningham read another
one an what a member of a club
should be like. The entertainment
committee for next week is Mary
Steeper, Wilma Hessel and Evan
Hodgins.
Prizes for euchre were: Mens
