The Irish then took a 2-1 lead
when Todd Hayter scored an unas-
sisted goal at 16:11 of the final
frame, but that lead was short-lived
because David Dalrymple's goal,
from Joel Campbell just 35 sec-
onds later, deadlocked the game for
good.
Clint McCann and Scott Bedard
shared the goaltending duties for
the Hawks.

Last year's goalie Todd Campbell
was back in the nets for Exeter in
this game after being let go by
Junior B St. Marys Lincolns earlier
in the week.
Sunday's game was much tamer
than Friday's affair with on1y,,10
minor penalties handed out to Exet-
er and only seven minors and one
major to Tavistock.
Tavistock's major penalty was
for slashing late in the game and
the Hawks scored the winning goal
with the man advantage. Bob
Hern's unassisted goal with h09
left in the third period turned out to
be the game winner for the Hawks.

EXETER - Tryouts for the Exeter
Mohawks are now well underway
as the team gets ready to make the
jump from Senior B to Senior A
hockey.this year.
The team started practicing Sep-
tember 14 and have had four tryouts
thus far. Their first of four exhibi-
tion games will be Thursday night
when they take on the Dorchester
Dolphins at the 'Lucan Arena at
8:30 p.m. and the Lambeth Flyers
will be in Lucan at 8:30 p.m. Sun-
day night. The Mohawks will be
playing in Dorchester next Friday
night, October 6 and in Lambeth
the following night.
The only player on last year's
provincial Senior B championship
team that is not coming back this
year is John Kernick. New coach
Dave Revington said about 35
players were at the first tryout and
that has now been whittled down to
30. He added he doesn't want to lose
any more players before the first
game because he is not really sure
what they can do until he secs
them in game situations.
Revington also hag seven goal -
tenders trying out for two or three
spots on the team. Back for another
season will be veteran netminder
Rick Pikul, who will likely be the
number one goalie this year and
Revington is not sure if he will go
with one or two back-ups. Among
those trying out for the spots are
last year's back-up Bill Dark and Sid
Kemp the number two goalie two
years ago.
The Mohawks will open the regu-
lar season Wednesday, October 11
in Chatham against the Maroons
and the home opener will be Sun-
day, October 15 when Lambeth will
be at the South Huron .Rec Centre
at 7:30 p.m.
Carol Acton and Jeanet a kaiak,
both playing girls' singles, brought
in the highest placing for the Pan-
thers. Both girls survived two
rounds to advance to the semi-
finals. If they each won their semi-
final match, they would have met
each other in the final match and
both qualified for WOSSA play.
In mixed doubles play, Andrew
Thompson and Kim Murray had a
bye in the first round of play but
where knocked in their next match.
Unfortunately, both lost their
semi-fmal matches.
