CENIRALIA - "We are all Gods
People" was the theme of the UCW
South Huron Fall Regional held at
Centralia United Church on Mon-
day, September 19.
A lively singsong under the lead-
ership of Margaret Hern and Marjo-
rie Johns opened the meeting.
Guest speaker for the evening was
Pat Cruttenden of Lucan who spoke
on South Africa. Having been born
there and living a good part of her
life there, she was able to share his-
torical, geographical and climatic
facts about the country as well as
informative coverage of the apart-
heid problem.
Pat cited "The Passing Summer",
a book by Michael Cassidy, as an
accurate account of what is going
on in South Africa today and called
for Christian s t� pray for the peo-
ple of South Africa to pull together
in Christ's name. Pat closed tier ex-
cellent presentation by showin
several slides of the many beautiful
flowers and picturesque scenery of
the area.
Special music was provided by
Marlene Mathers and Carol Moore
of Exeter. Susan Howson gave an
informative review of books that
are available at the Mitchell Re-
source Centre.
President Marion Dearing an-
nounced that the Huron -Perth Pres-
byterial annual meeting will be held
on January 22. 1990, and that we
will be called on to assist with
preparations for the London Confer-
ence annual meeting being held at
Centralia College in May, 1990.
Mildred McCallum, HurOn-Perth
Presbyterial Treasurer, presented a
treasurers report, as well as a pro-
jected budget for 1990. The offering
for the evening was directed to the
Mission and Service Fund of the
United Church of Canada
Presbyterial President Helen An-
derson brou:ht greetings from Hu -
meets
ron-Perth Presbyterial and cited
Mission and Service and environ-
mental concerns among priorities of
UCW groups but noted that our
own spirituality should be the num-
ber one priority. Helen was respon-
sible for presenting a brief of the
inquiry board of the Ministry of Ed-
ucation calling for religious instruc-
tion of the local boards of educa-
tion.
UCW groups were reminded to
continue saving Campbell soups la-
bels for Exeter and help the children
in Puerto Rico
Devotions were presented by June
Stewart, Janice Richardson. and Ju-
dith Parker of Thames Road UCW.
Their meditation very capably sup-
ported the theme and reinforced the
fact that we are all truly God's peo-
ple.
Incoming regional President for
1990-91 is Mildred MacGregor of
Kippen with her assistant being
Karen Tieman of Dashwood. The
1990 South Huron Regional will
be held at Elimville United
Church.
Rev. Deborah Carter of Centralia
United Church closed the meeting
with the benediction.

SHIPKA - Private Glenn Durie,
son of Sid and Eleanor, (who for-
merly resided in this area) is pres-
ently stationed in Cyprus, with the
Canadian Contingent of United Na-
tions.
Ken and Ortha Baker, accompa-
nied by family members, Mrs.
Emma Schilbe, Zurich, Orval and
Mae Schilbe, Thamesville, Elsie
and Jake Rider, Bayfield, Marg and
Bob Reid, Varna area, spent a few
days holidaying recently at a motet
in Port Elgin and enjoyed the in-
door pool.
Weekend visitors with the Bakers
were Sandra and Tony Regier,
Chris, Heather and Jill, of Mount
Clemens, Michigan. Donna (Baker)
Yarrow, of Winnipeg, is visiting
this week with her parents, Ken and
Ortha Baker.
Clyde and Evelyn Nicholson, of
Courtright, visited several days last
week with Evelyn's sister and
brother-in-law, Don and Mabel
Fraser.
On the Friday night of their visit
they all were supper guests with
Dorothy and Lorne Fenner. Other
guests were the Nicholson's Sr.
son, Kenneth and Shirley Nichol-
son and their four children, Bradley,
Angela, Aaron and Corey, also 01
Courtright. At the supper they cele-
brated Mabel Frasers birthday.
Clyde and Evelyn returned home
with their son and family.
Corporal Steve Gwynne, his wife
Cindy and their daughter Micoh
Anne, of Regina, Saskatchewan,
spent a few days last week with
Cindy's parents, Willis and Elia
Desjardine and Michelle Mabel,
also visited in Ottawa with Steve's
father.
The birthday club card players
group met at the Morenz home last
Saturday night to celebrate Hugh's
birthday.
Attending were Ed Turnbull, Zu-
rich, Les and Marjorie Adams and
Hedy Devine, Exeter, Melvin and
Gerrie Stade, Earl Stebbins and Os-
car and Laura Miller, all of Dash-
wood and area
We visited and reminisced, played
six hand euchre and solo, followed
by lunch refreshments and birthday
cake.
