Minor soccer season ends
EXETER - All three of the Exeter
soccer teams playing in the West
Middlesex Youth Soccer League
played their last game of a success-
ful season this week.
Two of the three teams had previ-
ously won their league champion-
ship and one, the girls 12 and under
had to settle for second place overall
after losing in overtime in a decid-
ing game.
Through wins in preliminary
round games all three of the Exeter
teams had qualified for "A" champi-
onship playoff rounds finals played
in Strathroy Saturday.
It turned into another successful
day for Exeter.
In the morning, the girls 10 and
under put together a real team effort
and played an outstanding game de-
feating Komoka by a 4-1 score to
take th "A" championship. Theresa
Wilhelm scored four times for the
Exeter girls. Congratulations to
Bert DeBont and Ken Farwell for an
excellent season.
Not to be outdone the girls 12
and under took on a strong Wallace-
town team and squeaked out a 1-0
victory. Congratulations to Susan
Hulley and your girls. By the time
the boys 18 and under took to the
field, a steady rain had made the
playing of soccer very difficult on a
very slippery field. After giving up
an early goal to Mount Brydges, the
Exeter boys took control of the
game and led by strong midfield
play by Henri DeBruyn and Greg
Lamport quickly tied the score on a
good effort by Frank and Jamie
Wulterkens. Before halftime, Henri
found the short side of the net with
a hard shot.
In the second half, Mount Brydg-
es tried hard to get back into the
game but Dan McCarter scored an
insurance goal on a long shot for
Exeter to put away the victory.
Congratulations boys on an excel-
lent season.
All minor soccer in the area has
now been completed! '
