'Celebration Day'. at Exeter
EXETER - September I0 was
1 "Celebration Day" at Exeter United
Church. The opening hymn for our
Dedication Service at 11 a.m. was
"Part of the Family" and the chorus
"Come ,in, come in and sit down -
you are a part of the family" ex-
pressed the happiness, warmth and
fellowship that we were sharing.
Rooth - Ducharme
Lisa Diane Rooth and Darcy Jo-
seph Ducharme were married
July 15, 1989 at St. Peter's
Catholic Church, .St. Joseph
with Father Peter Hayes and
Rev. Richard Hawley officiat-
ing. The bride is the daughter
of Don. and Nancy Rooth, Exet-
er, Ontario, and the groom is
the son of Paul and Joan Du-
charme, RR 2, Zurich, Ontario.
Leanne Rooth, sister of the
bride, was maid of honour, with
Margo Ducharme, sister of the
groom, and Heather Hastings,
friend of the bride and groom,
as bridesmaids. Best man was
Bob Whyte, friend of the
groom, with ushers Dan Rooth,
brother of the bride, and Tim
James, friend of the bride and
groom. After a honeymoon in
New York, the couple are now
residing in Sarnia. Darcy and
Lisa wish to thank everyone for
making their day so special.
The Sunday School children were
welcomed back by Bev Robinson,
our Staff Associate who, during the
Children's story time, explained to
them the many reasons that they as
part of our church family have to
celebrate. The children later re-
turned, parading into the sanctuary
with balloons to join in the Official
Opening Celebration.
Bob Down, chairperson of the Fi-
nance and Property Committee, pre-
sented a resumd of the work com-
pleted both at the church and the
manse with a sincere thank you to
.the entire church family for their
support and especially to the many
volunteers who- gave so much of
their time.
John Wuerth and Bill Montgom-
ery had the'ple sure of telling us
that the furs ce loan for the new
heating system, installed last year,
was paid in full. They then symbol-
ically burned that loan.
Bev Prout, on behalf of the Ele-
vating Device Committee, outlined
the project which involved the in-
stallation of an elevating device, the
relocation and renovation of the
coatroom and men's washroom, and
the construction of two ramps, one
in the Primary Room entering off
the elevating device landing to the
basement floor level.
Bev welcomed all those in atten-
dance'and introduced the following
guests who had been more aware of
the possibilities for access at Exeter
United Church. From the town of
Exeter, Mayor Bruce Shaw, from
the township of Usborne, Reeve
Gerald Prout and his wife Dorothy,
from the township of Stephen,
Reeve Tom Tomes and his wife
Phyllis, from the township of Hay,
Reeve Lionel Wilder and his wife
Rebecca and residents of the Park-
hill Group Home, Huron Street,
Exeter.
Several people gave special gifts
and memorials to the Elevating De-
vice Fund and many of their family
members were present to witness
the official opening. The Fund will
open and a plaque commemorating
these contributions and other gifts
of $500.00 or more, received by
December 31, 1989 will be erected
near the Elevating Device in early
1990.
Bev also introduced the following
guests invited to participate with
the Official Ribbon cutting: Mr.
Jack Riddell, representing the Prov-
ince of Ontario and specifically the

WHO SHOULD PRE -PLAN FOR A FUNERAL?
It's sv easy T'o avtiki planning a fur)eral in advance. So often, people
tend to ignore the subject, instead leaving w tins th,,ta un-
oortant considerations whieh ran htmade,.,s,2 :f'-i3y,bsfo a -they -ata
needed.
Certain groups of people, especially,'should consider pre -planning
and pre -financing a funeral. For example, people living on a fixed in-
come would be wise to plan in advance for funeral arrangements, so
they can be assured that the Cost of such services can be easily met.
(Pre -planning, however, need not cost anything. You may simply
record with us your final wishes in the matter.
Retired people should think about planning arrangements so such de-
cisions wont have to ba made at the time of need. In addition, people
wllb are caring for elderly parents would be wise to make funeral ar-
rangements in advance.
Finally, if you travel or move your household frequently, pre -planning
may save much confusion should you die. Planning in advance also
saves the family from making many long-distance telephone calls to
make arrangements at a difficult time for them.
As funeral ,directors, we can provide all the information necessary for
you to pre -plan funeral services. Please stop by or give us a call.

Rev. Rick Hawley then presented
Bev Prout with a bouquet of flow-
ers on behalf of our church family
for the tremendous amount of work,
effort and time Bev has put into
this project.
Gerry Bornath, chairperson of the
Outreach Committee spoke to us of
our church mission work, past, fu-
ture and continuing and reminded us
of the importance of looking cut -
ward as well as inward in cur ste-
wardship and responsibilities as
Christ's disciples.
Following the service the congre-
gation joined for a delicious lunch-
eon and many thanks must go to
Joanne Wareham, Betty Watson and
helpers for looking after this.
Members of the Finance and
Property Committee were on hand
to conduct tours of the completed
renovations. the questions, com-
ments and interest shown should
certainly tell them that their efforts
were appreciated.
While some of our family took a
break after this, Linda Aitkins and
Dal Harvey graciously offered to en-
tertain some of the children while
the rest of us participated in the
first ever, hope tp be repeated, Exet-
er United Golf Tournament orga-
nized by Bill Montgomery with the
help of Peter Snell and Gerry
MacLean.
Later in the evening we shared a
pot -luck supper. So many came out
for supper that we had to scramble
to set up extra tables. Special thank
go to Alma Langford, Heather
Montgomery and their helpers for
looking after that.
The wrap-up to our Day of Cele-
bration was the. Talent Sharing
showcase, convened by Dianne
Shapton our talent "scout" with
Carf Cann as MC. The Golf
Awards were also part of this time
with Helen Burton and Peter Snell
taking the prize for the Ladies and
Men's Low and Chris Passmore and
Ben Van Bergen won the prizes for
the Ladies and Men's High. Forty-
three people took part in the tourna-
ment and with all of the generous
donations of gifts almost everyone
got a prize.
Our day closed with us all joining
hands and sharing in the singing of
"Day is Done".
