HENSALL - The Hensall and
District Horticultural Society got
their flower show back on track
last week. The third annual event
was held in the United G urch last
Wednesday after miss' last year
due to dry drought itions.
Seventeen exhibitors brought in
their best this year to show in the
44 classes, totalling 171 entries in
all. One woman brought 34 en-
tries alone.
Jean McEwen was judge this year
and said she was very pleased with
both the quantity and quality of
flowers on display at Hensall's
show. Approximately 75 people
came to see the entries on display
both in the afternoon and evening.
In each class, first, second and
third place winners were chosen and
the winners were awarded ribbons
and prizes donated by 14 Hensall
and area businesses.
Top gladioli - Irene Dunn was
one of many exhibitors at the
Hensall and District Horticultu-
ral Society's third annual flower
show last week. Dunn not
only entered these first place
gladioli, but also garnered three
other first place entries, one
second place and one third.
Story hour at Hensall library

HENSALL - Pre -School Story -
hour at the Hensall Library will be-
gin next Monday, September 11 at
10 a.m. All three, four and five year
olds are welcome. Moms may stay
or not, as they wish. This is a per-
fect
erfect opportunity for children to join
a learning environment. The group
listens to stories, sing songs, plays
games and makes simple crafts. If
you have any more questions con-
tact Susan Hartman at the Library
or drop in.
Also at the Library this month,
Larry Cherns will offer a two hour
workshop on Handwriting Analy-
sis. There is a $1 admission charge
for this program which is open
only to adults (Grade= 9 or older).
Space is limited so pre -register now
by paying your $1 at the Library.
That's Saturday, September 23 at
10 a.m. at the Library.
Three Links
The Three Links Senior Citizens
of Hensall would like to remind
members, both new and old, that
meetings will start again on Tues-
day, September 12 with a pot -luck
supper at 6:30 p.m.
United Church
Hensall United Church Sunday
School begins its 1989/90 year on
Sunday, September 10 at 11 a.m.
Classes for children 4 t 16 are
available. There are also Nursery fa-
cilities for newborn to 3 year olds
during the Worship Service.

Holiday visitors with Leonard and
Minnie Noakes were John and Eve-
lyn Abraham of Kamloops B.C.
(next door neighbours of son John),
Marian Peebles of London who is
Minnie's sister and Sarah Noakes of
Seaforth, a granddaughter.
Several family members, relatives
and friends attended the reception at
.Kirkton for newlyweds Murray and
Jean Parker. Jean is the eldest
daughter of Leonard and Minnie. A
large crowd was on hand to wish
the young couple happiness. Mur-
ray is a lifelong resident of Mitchell
and Jean has resided for several
years in London.
Northcrest news
Mark Gravett and friend Cathy
Williams of Toronto visited his
grandparents Glen and Pearl
McKnight last Sunday.
Barb Plumb spent the weekend
with her friend Angela White of
Mitchell.
Barb McGregor of Northcrest has
returned from a lovely holiday with
Ken and Grace Wilbee in Napanee.
Lois Waldon and daughter Vicki
Hoover of Kincardine visited with
the former's mother on Tuesday of
last week.
Shuffleboard
Top scorer for August 29 was
Emma Campbell with 433. Right
behind was Dave Kyle at 432.
Rounding out the top six were John
Pepper- 415, Pearl McKnight 411,
Jack Consitt 355 and Helen McKay
with 353.

Clubs reactivate after summer

ZURICH - Now that fall is on
its way, the month of Sejttember
marks the beginning of many local
clubs' monthly meetings.
The St. Boniface CWL are set-
ting up a quilt at the Maple Woods
Apartments on September 12 to
get ready for their bazaar in No-
vember. Everyone is welcome to
come out and help.
The Golden Agers' fust meeting
of the season is September 11 at
the Township Hall at 6 p.m. with.
a pot -luck supper. All seniors are
welcome.
- Bowling begins every Thursday
afternoon at the lanes from 2-4
p.m. The Ladies' Bowling League
will -be starting their Monday
games on September 11. The Pin -
Poppers are this year's executive.
Interested bowlers can contact the
lanes or Carmel Sweeney at 236-
4702.
The Men's Tuesday night bowl-
ing teams are looking for more
players, so call Gary Huston -at
262-2517 or the lanes if interested.
September 7 marks the Ontario
Five-Pifi Bowling Association
meeting and get-together at the
lanes. The executive meets at 7:30
and the general meeting is at 8:00.
The Blue Water Rest Home La-
dies Auxiliary are holding a meet-
ing September 12 at the 'Home au-
ditorium at 7 p.m. All members
and guests are invited.
Minor Hockey
Registration for the Minor Ath-
letic Association's hockey teams
will be on Saturday September 16
from 12-2 p.m. in the arena.
4-H
Four H is back and youths in the
area interested in getting involved
and are at least 11 years old as of
January 1 can contact the leaders
before September 12.
This season's focus will be
"Good Foods - Fast Learning", a
look at making nutritious meals in
the microwave oven. The six-week
course will be taught by Sylvia
Nceb (236-4042) and Bridget Groot
(236-4743).
