Mohawks get Cup tournament
EXETER - The Exeter Mohawks
have come up with a way to elimi-
nate the problem of Hardy Cup
games getting in the way of their
regular -season matches.
John Prydc told the Mohawk ex-
ecutive at their annual general, meet-
ing Thursday night that they pro-
posed to have a Hardy Cup
tournament to dispose of the prob-
lems cif games being played co-
inciding -with regular season games
during a recent O.I1.A. meeting and
the proposal seemed to go over very
well with the provincial governing-
txxly.
Prydc said he went into the meet-
ing with intentions of taking over
the defunct Palmerston Senior tour-
nament and before he knew what
had happened, the idea of a Hardy
Cup tournament seemed to go over
so well the tournament seemed
liked a shoe -in for Exeter, because
other teams had similar gripes.
Under the Mohawks proposal the
entire Hardy Cup qualifying process
will be completed in one weekend,
which would eliminate a lot of ex-
tra Ravel for all teams during the
regular season.
Pryde also said he approached the
Junior Hawks before going to the
OHA meeting ,and talked to them
about running the Senior tourna-
ment in conjunction with their an-
nual Junior C and D tournament
and they agreed, but each tourna-
ment will be run separately,. Both
team will split profits from each
tournament.
To get the tournament completed
on time it will start Friday night
January 19 and will run until Sun-
day, January 21 at both Exeter and
Hensall Arenas. The final day will
be all finals from the Junior and
Senior sides of the tournament.
Registration for the tournament
will be limited to the first eight
teams to pay their entry fee. Pryde
and George Pratt, president of the
Hawks both said. they have at least
five teams committed already to
play in the weekend of hockey.
Pratt said the Hawks are very hap-
py with the arrangement.
"I think it is a great idea. I think
it will be a big plus going for us
because there would be a bigger
draw for our games, " said Pratt,
who admits he is not anticipating
any problems.
Under the agreement, each team
will be run independently but in
conjunction with the other, under
the direction of the OHA, with each
team splitting any profits once the
tournament is completed.

gust 12 at Bryanston. There, Nairn
I defeated Exeter Bland St. Colum-.
- ban to reach the final round. Nairn

The final game saw Nairn I defeat
Nairn II giving Nairn I the "A"

Tykes in Lucan
LUCAN _ Lucan fans witnessed
an excellent weekend of baseball, as
they played host to the W.O.B.A.
Tyke Leagues championship tour-
nament.
The Lucan diamonds were contin-
uously busy as eight teams compet-
ed in the double -knockout tourna-
ment.
Port Elgin's cntry eventually
emerged as the .champions, going
undefeated in five games. Mark
Fleming's host squad was edged out
in two very well played, exciting
