Saturday, August 26, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (34c) New arena at New Liskeard NEW LISKEARD - Construction has officially begun on an all- weather arena at the New Liskeard College of Agriculture. Technology, Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food David Ramsay (MPP - Timis- kaming) announced during a ground- breaking ceremony. "The new facility wilt increase the scope of the college's teaching program. It will provide students enrolled in the equine and livestock programs with an excellent facility that can be used year-round for regu- lar classes, clinics and shows. Local agricultural organizations will also use the arena for livestock shows and auction," Ramsay said. "On behalf of myself and my col- league, the. Minister of Northern Development Rene Fontaine, I would like to say how pleased we arc that our ministries are able to assist in funding such an important addition to both the college and the local agricultural community," Ramsay said. The project is king jointly fund- ed by the Ministries of Northern Development and Agriculture and Food. The Ministry of Government Services is overseeing construction of the building. Hembruff and Dambrowitz Ltd. of Matheson, Ontario, has been award- ed the S964,000 contract to con- struct the multi-purpose arena. The architect for the project was Wil- liam Scott of Timmins. The arena will. be 2,560 usable square metres, about the equivalent of half a football field.
