Soccer winners - The Exeter Atom 2 soccer team took league playoff honors Saturday, defeating the

Atom 2 takes playoff crown
EXETER - In Atom action this
week there was a deciding game be-
tween both Exeter teams to deter-
mine first -place champions.
Exeter I played a strong first half
with Jeff Maclean scoring two
goals.
In the second half Exeter II scored
once on a penalty shot, but were
unable to score again on many good
plays.
On Saturday in the playoffs, both
Exeter I and Exeter II won their first
games in the "A" division. Exeter II
had a bye into the "A" finals.
Exeter I came up against a strong
St. Columban team and were defeat-
ed. In the "A" finals Exeter II defeat-
ed Coldstream 3-0, to win the ''A"
final. -
The Mosquitos played their last
regular season game against Nairn
which ended in a scoreless tie. The
Mosquitos ended up in sccond place
and will compete in the playoffs
this Saturday in Lucan.
The girls 10 -and -under team
;flayed their last regular -season
game against Komoka and were 3-0
winners.
The win makes them the league
champions. Congratulations to Bert
DeBont and the girls for an excel-
lent season..
The girls 12 -and -under easily de-
feated Coldstream 6-1. This leaves
the girls in first place however sec-
ond -place Strathroy has one game
yet to play.
Co-ops lose pair

mound for Exeter and he got some
relief help from Davidson.
Listowel batters managed only
10 hitsand scored 12 runs but were
helped along by six Exeter errors,
helping the winners to their 10 un -
earned pins.
The Co-ops played their third
garne of the series yesterday in Ex-
eter. If Exeter is victorious in that.
game, the fourth game of the series
will be played back in Listowel at
7:30 p.m. and if a fifth and decid-
ing game is needed it will be
played Sunday back in Exeter at an
undetermined time.

Centennials lose close one
EXETER - The Exeter Centenni-
al senior soccer club lost a close 3-
2 game Sunday on their home field
to the league leading Strathroy
team
The Centennials played a good
defensive game against the hard-
hitting visiting 'team which ended

players.
Strathroy took the lead in the
first half but Exeter's Jerry Van De
Walle tied it up at the 30 minute
mark. The Centennials fell behind
again with only 10 seconds left in
the first-half which left the game 2-
1' at the half mark.
In the second half, Strathroy
again scored but Exctcr replied with
a goal of their own by Dick Lord.
The score remained 3-1 at the end of
the game.

team is this Sunday when they trav-

Lincolns holding camp
ST. MARYS - The St. Marys
Lincolns Junior B hockey club will
be holding a three-day mini camp
at the St. Marys Arena this week-
end, August 25-27.
The tryout is open to all junior
age players in the arca and Lin-
coln's management is encouraging

Playing for thk Lincolns this
season to try out.
On -ice workouts will he held on
Friday and Saturday from 7-9 p.m.,
with a scrimmage game set for
Sunday at 2 p.in.
Anybody that impresses the Lin-
coln's management will be invited
back to the main camp and that is
slated for Monday, August 28 at 10
a.m. again at the St. Marys Arena.

feated Lambeth 5-0 with goals by
Henri DeBruyn with two and sin-
gles by Chris Chanyi, Jamie Wul-
terkens and Jason McFalls. There
will be two games this week which
will decide the championship.
A reminder the wind up is to be
held September 10 with games to
start at 1 p.m. weather permitting
with trophies and awards to be pre-
sented at 2:30 in the Rec Centre fol-
lowed by a pot luck supper at 5
p.m.
