Bad inning costly to Co-ops
KINCARDINE - A bad final in-
ning in the championship game
cost the Exeter Junior Co-ops the
WOBA Junior title, losing in the
final game ter-Flesherton 8-7 Sun-
day afternoon.
Exeter had opened the league
championship series with a 7-2
win over the host Kincardine team
Friday night. Saturday they beat
Lucan 4-2, were defeated by Flesh-
erton 5-4 and beat Hanover Satur-
day night 13-4 to set up Sunday's
championship game.
In that game, Exeter had built a
3-1 lead after three innings but the
the locals trailed 5-4 after six in-
nings. Flesherton had scored three
times in their half of the seventh
and Exeter answered with three runs
of their own, but fell one run
short.
Scott Miller, Dave Schwindt and
Jeff Butler each hit doubles for Ex-
eter in the game. Miller drove in a
pair of runs, while Marty •Merner
had a pair of single and Terry
Genttner, Jeff Keller, Brent
O'Brien, and yred Gregus all sin
gled once.
Genttner took the tough loss for
Exeter on the mound.
Exeter 13 Hanover 4
Exeter led 6-4 after six innings in
this game but blew it open with
seven tallies in the seventh inning.
Merner scored three times to lead
Exeter in this contest, on a pair of
walks and a single. Gregus scored
twice on a pair of singles, O'Brien
scored twice on a walk and an error,
while every other player except
Scot Russel scored at least one run
in the game for the winners.
Scot Davidson got the win on
the hill for Exeter in this game.
Flesherton 5 Exeter. 4
Exeter had built a 3-0 lead after
four innings but fell apart in the
late innings and lost when Flesher-
- ton scored three times in the last
inning.
Jeff Keller, Brent O'Brien, and
Gregus all had single hits for Exet-
er, while Genttner had two and
Schwindt took top spot with three
hits for Exeter.
Gregus started for Exeter in the
game and got some relief help from
Davidson.
No details from the win over Lu -
can Saturday morning, were availa-
ble at press time.
In the opening game against the
host team Friday night. Exeter
scored twice in the fourth inning,
three times in the fifth and added a
pair in the sixth.
Larry Lewis and Genttner each
scored twice for Exeter, while Jeff
Keller, Russell, and Merner scored
once each.
Exeter had only three hits in the
game, but were aided by six walks
and seven Kincardine errors.
Miller picked up the win on the
moynd for Exeter in the game.
The Co-ops opened their OBA
playoffs yesterday, Tuesday, in Lis-
towel ana have a doubleheader slated
for Exete Sunday afternoon.

Swim club has best showing in final meet of the season in Seaforth
SEAFORTH - The Exeter Bara-
cudas Swim Club took part in their
and final meet of the season in Sea -
forth Saturday morning and had
their best result as a team.
The team was fourth in the five -
team field with a grand total of 165
points, more than 100 ahead of the
last -place Stratford squad. Godcrich
was first overall again as they have
been all year, because they have the
largest number of swimmers, with
454 points, Clinton/Vanastra was
second with 299 points, Seaforth
was next with 224, followed by
Exeter with 165 and Stratford pull-
ing up the rear with a grand total of
49 points.
In the Girls' 13 and 14 year-old
100 metre individual medley, Lisa
Forrest, of Exeter won that race in
a time of 1:59.1.
In the Boys' eight -and -under 25m
freestyle race; Chris Finch finished
fifth in 40 seconds, and in the
Girls' eight -and -under frecstylc racc,
Sandra Steele was fourth and Mag-
gie Steciuk finished sixth.
In the Boys' nine and 10 50m
freestyle race, Lucas Forrest was
the race winner in a winning time
of 59.12 seconds, followed by
teammate' Jon Moore who placed
fifth in a time of 1:13.7 seconds.
Gavin Poole place third in the
Boys' 11 and 12 year-old 50m
freestyle race for Exeter, while in
the Girls' 11 and 12, 50m freestyle
race. Exeter's Kristy Ahrens was
second in 57.9 seconds followed
very closely by teammate Sandra
Vanderlaan in third in 57.91 sec-
onds.
Lisa Forest placed second overall
in the Girls' 13 and 14 year-old
50m freestyle race.
Finch was the race winner in his
division in the 25m back stroke
event, while the only other back,
stroke swimmer from Exeter to
place was Anita Wcin, who was
third in the Girls' 11 and 12 year-
old 50m race in a time of 1:04.36.
Exeter's Melanie Knip placed
fifth in the Girls' eight -and -under
25m breast stroke race in 43.36
seconds, while Lucas Forrest won
his race rather easily in 32.5 sec-
onds, followed by Moore in second
spot in 35.3 seconds.
In the Boy's 11 and 12 50m
breast stroke race, Gavin Poole was
fourth in 1:25 seconds, while Anita
Atom 1 wins twice
EXETER - The Exeter 1 Atom
soccer team played twice last week
and won both contests rather easi-
ly.
Last Monday, the defeated Ildcr-
ton 3-1 in Ildcrton and Wednesday
night they blasted Lucan 8-0 in Ex-
eter. -
Against Ildcrton, Jcff MacLcan
scorcd twice and Greg Geoffrey
scored once.
Geoffrey and Geoffrey Mayer
each scored twice for Exctcr in the
win over Lucan with single goals
going to Michael Wilhelm, Ryan
Freiter, Chris Genttner and MacL-
can.
Exctcr 1 and Exeter 11 finished
the season with identical 11-1-0
record and played Monday night to
determine first place heading into
Saturday's playoff tournament in
Coldstream.
Squirts season ends
Wein was sixth in the Girls' 11 and
12 50m race. -
Perhaps Exeter's best race was in
the Girls' 13 and 14 year-old 50m
breast stroke event when Exeter
swimmers took the top three spots.
Lisa Forrest was the winner going
away. She swam it in a time of
55.6 seconds, followed by Jen Wei-
gand in Jecond place in 1:12 and
Carla Taylor in third in 1:15.
Steciuk was the winner of the
Girls' eight -and -under 25m butterfly
race in 45.48 seconds, followed
closely by teammate Sandra Steele
in second in 45.60 seconds.
Lucas Forrest placed third in his
division in the butterfly, while
Poole was able to win his butterfly
race in a time 32.9, more than three
seconds in front of the second -place'
finisher.
The Baracudas did well in the
Girls' 11 and 12 year-old 25m but-
terfly race as well. It was won by
Kristy Ahrens in a time. of 24.7
seconds, followed Vanderlaan in
second in 25.9 seconds and Carissa
Willis wt c fourth in 32.2 seconds.
The Gils' eight -and -under 100m
freestyle relay team of Maggie Ste-
ciuk, Melanie Knip, Courtney Oke
and Sandra Steele placed third in
their race in a time of 2:47.
The Buys' nine and 10 year-old
freestylz relay team of Forrest,
Moore, Chris Finch, and Mark
Knip was third in their race, while
the Girls' 11 and 12 year-old 200m
freestyle relay team of Ahrens, Ta-
nia Deiong, Carissa Willis and
Anita Wein finished in second spot.
The Girls' 13 and 14 year-old
200m freestyle relay team of Lisa
Forrest, Carla Taylor, Jen Weigand,
and Vandcrlaan finished third in
their race.
The Girls' 11 and 12 year-old
medley relay team of Wein, Ahrens,
Willis, and Vandcrlaan were able to
win their race.
