GRAND BEND - The Grand
Bend Atom Girl's Softball team
wrapped up the 1989 regular season
with a 14-8 loss against Centralia
last Tuesday night.
Grand Bend starting pitcher Lisa
Jennison turned in another strong
performance with nine strikeouts.
Heather Stockermans hit her first
home run for Grand Bend and
scored a pair of runs.
During the season, Jennison led
Grand Bend with seven homers and
22 runs scored. Jill Russell scored
17 runs, Carrie Illman hit two ho-
mers and scored 16 runs, Mary
Smith scored 16 runs, Misty Zara -
nick hit two home runs and scored
14 runs, followed by Laura -Sand-
with with 13 runs, Stockermans
with one homer run and 12 runs
scored, Michelle Smits, .Karric Jen-
nison, and Bobi-Jo Whiting each
scored 12 runs, Jacquet Brown with
10 runs, Erin Jennison nine runs,
Emily Miller with eight runs and
Deana Turnbull scored six times.

Tournament winners - Hibbert Atom girls became the Usbome Minor Baseball Association's "A"

Grand Bend coach Ron Dann said
the teams has improved a great deal
in pitching and hitting since the
start of the season, especially since
they had no experienced pitcher or
catcher.
"I am very proud of every girl on
the team and appreciate the assis-
tance of all mothers who helped
with coaching," said Dann.
The Grand Bend Pee Wee Boys
team recorded a 18-8 over Centralia
on July 26, vindicating an earlier
21-12 Toss that Centralia had hand-
ed Grand Bend at the start of the
season. •

triple, Jason Woodley's double and
Mark Boucher's single combined to
clear the bases in the first half of
the first inning to give Grand Bcnd
a 7-0 lead after a half -inning of
play.
Centralia didn't die and answered
with a five -run outburst of thcir
own. Kurt Mills doubled, Craig
Glavin reached on an crror and Pres
Lavicr homcrcd to.decp right -centre
field, then Brcnt Mills doubled for
Centralia and Mike Rimmer walked
and both players scored due to ex-
cellent base running.
The game was tight through the
middle innings but Grand Bcnd tal-
lied strongly again in the last in-
ning to preserve the victory.
Ryan Taylor opened with a sin-
gle, Woodley walked, Morgan
reached on a fielder's choice, then
Troy Stellingwcrff singled and Jere-
my Wilde homered to clear the bas-
es. Then Trent Stellingwcrff singled
and Mike Stanlake tripled to drive
him home and later stole home
himself to create the rally for Grand
Bend

Grand Bcnd then went on to play
Hibbert and beat them 18:10 which
advanced Grand Bcnd to the "A" fi-
nals.

"A" finals and came out on top of a
close see -saw game 13-9.
Steven Ducharme somehow
caught a fly ball on first base that
ended the game with Grand Bend
leading.
The entire Grand Bend team
played well throughout the tourna-
ment, with Levi Lane playing great
centrefield, Stopping a couple of
hall and holding the batters to just
singles.
For winning the "A" champion-
ship, the team was presented with a
trophy from the league and cach of
the players got a hat and badge to
wear for their efforts.
