New minister in Crediton pulpit
CREDITON - Rev. Ed Laksma-
nis was in the pulpit at Crediton
United Church for the first time
Sunday morning.
A native of Toronto, Rev. Lak-
smanis comes to Crediton after a
three year stay at a three point
charge centered in Petty Saskatche-
wan.
A graduate of the University of
Toronto and Emmanuel College he
spent two years as an assistant pas-
tor at the Huttonville-Norval
charge, near Toronto before heading
west.
Askedwhy he accepted the call to
Crediton, "I was interested in mov-
ing to a charge where I could feel
comfortable and that is certainly the
case here. I think I have natural
preaching quality with a strong ap-
proach to visiting. Any changes I
make will be done in a slow and or-
derly fashion.
New Crediton Cleric - Rev. Ed Laksmanis is the new minister at
Crediton United church. He is shown here with wife Lisa.

He continued, "This time of the
year visiting the farm families is
sort of out of the question, but I
can focus on shutins.
Laksmanis added, "One objective
of mine will be to get the youth of
the community back in the church.
We will find out their needs and the
resources available and go from
there. We need a variety of pro-
grams as young people get bored
easily".
He hopes to improve the church
family in Crediton and strengthen
the ties that are already there.
The new minister and his wife
Lisa who comes from Sarnia say
they both enjoy the rural atmos-
phere.
Mrs. Laksmanis is also a graduate
of the University of Toronto with
majors in psychology and sociolo-
gy. Laksmanis describes himself as
an outdoors person with special in-
terests in hunting, fishing, skiing,
boating and gardening.
They find the neighbours in Cre-
diton exceptionally friendly and are
enjoying being in the manse.
Laksmanis fills the vacancy
which was created when Rev. Brian
Elder moved to Port Dover in Sep-
tember after serving more than nine
years in Crediton.
Rev. Bob Peebles of Dashwood
was the interim pastor from Sep-
tember until the present time.
