Ed Laksma- nis was in the pulpit at Crediton United Church for the first time Sunday morning. A native of Toronto, Rev. Lak- smanis comes to Crediton after a three year stay at a three point charge centered in Petty Saskatche- wan. A graduate of the University of Toronto and Emmanuel College he spent two years as an assistant pas- tor at the Huttonville-Norval charge, near Toronto before heading west. Askedwhy he accepted the call to Crediton, "I was interested in mov- ing to a charge where I could feel comfortable and that is certainly the case here. I think I have natural preaching quality with a strong ap- proach to visiting. Any changes I make will be done in a slow and or- derly fashion. New Crediton Cleric - Rev. Laksmanis added, "One objective of mine will be to get the youth of the community back in the church. We will find out their needs and the resources available and go from there. We need a variety of pro- grams as young people get bored easily". He hopes to improve the church family in Crediton and strengthen the ties that are already there. The new minister and his wife Lisa who comes from Sarnia say they both enjoy the rural atmos- phere. Mrs. Laksmanis is also a graduate of the University of Toronto with majors in psychology and sociolo- gy. Laksmanis describes himself as an outdoors person with special in- terests in hunting, fishing, skiing, boating and gardening. They find the neighbours in Cre- diton exceptionally friendly and are enjoying being in the manse. Laksmanis fills the vacancy which was created when Rev. Brian Elder moved to Port Dover in Sep- tember after serving more than nine years in Crediton. Rev. Bob Peebles of Dashwood was the interim pastor from Sep- tember until the present time. Games were enjoyed, followed by a beautiful supper and birthday cake. Family . members were present from Oakville, Campbell- ville, Kitchener, Stratford, Gode- rich, Mitchell and surrounding area. Lome, Helen and Pauline Fell have returned from Manitoba, where they attended the Canadian Seed Growers Association National Convention at Brandon, Manitoba. Sharon, Roger and Joyce Fell have returned from a 15 -day trip to Northern Ireland and Scotland. They were among 11 Perth County Junior Farmers who took part in the trip to the United Kingdom. While there, they saw the twelfth of July celebration taking place. Darlene, Sean and Meaghan Elli- son, Goderich, and Roberta Tem- pleman, Staffa, visited on Wednes- , day with Jim, Gerri, Jennifer, Jessica and Jay Neilson, Kitchener. Six Staffa Women's Institute members and friends enjoyed a walking tour of Shakespeare recent- ly, returning to the Cross Winds in Mitchell for supper. Joyce Fell will be spending a few. weeks in London, studying music history at the Western Ontario Conservatory of music. She will also be taking part in a four-day vocal workshop during her stay in London. Joyce has just recently re- ceived word from the Conservatory that she received First Class Hon- ours in her Grade eight violin ex- aminations. Congratulations Joyce. The events included pil- low fights, swimming, water games and egg tosses. The balloon lift-off was a great success ad many thanks are extended to the Exeter District Co-op for their sponsorship which made the event possible. Peach recipes Frozen Peach Yogourt Pops Kids of all, ages will love this fruity frozen treat that's good for them too. 5 medium peeled, pitted and halved' Ontario peaches 2 cups (500 mL) plain yogourt 2/3 cup (150 mL) icing sugar 8 5-oz./150-mL paper cups 8 popsicle sticks Slice one peach into eighths; set aside. In large bowl, mash remain- ing peaches with fork. Alternative- ly, for smoother consistency, puree peaches in food processor or blend- er. Add yogourt and sugar to peach- es; stir well. Placeilfne reserved peach slice in each paper cup. Divide yogourt mixture evenly between cups; insert popsicle stick in center of each. Freeze until firm, about 5 hours. Remove from freezer 15 to 20 min- utes before serving and peel off paper cups. Makes 8 yogourt pops. Preparation Time: 15 minutes; Freezing Time: 5 hours; Standing Time: 15 to 20 minutes. Peach Halves with Three Fruit Sauce An elegant easy way to end a meal combining fresh peaches with two other summer favorites - rasp- berries and blueberries. 4 medium Ontario peaches 1 cup (250 mL) fresh raspberries - 1 cup (250 mL) fresh blueberries 2 tbsp (25 mL) brandy (optional) 2 tbsr 51,11..) liquid honey 1/4 tsi. ‘i mL) ground cinnamon, 2 tbsp (25 mL) sour cream 2 tsp (10 mL) milk 2 tbsp (25 mL) icing sugar Peels halve and pit 2 peaches. In food processor or blender, combine peeled peaches, 1/2 cup (125 mL) raspberries, 1/2 cup (125 mL) blue- berries, brandy and honey. Process until smooth. Halve and pit remaining- two peaches. Spoon nnc-quartet sauce onto each of four dessert plates. Arrange peach half in center of each. In small bowl, toss remain- insw berries with cinnamon. Arrange Ca ., over sauce fa separate %malt nowt,_- snml —s a t. -%roti,-.► Spoon small dabs of mixture over sauce on each plate. Drag point of knife through dabs to make pattern. Sift icing sugar over plates if de- sired. Serve at once. Makes 4 serv- ings.
