Hensall loses postmaster to Clinton By Susan Hartman I-IENSALL - Brenda Russell, Hensall's postmaster for the past four years, will become postmaster of Clinton effective July 1. Until a decision is}made on who will fill Russell's vacancy in Hensall, Linda Ferguson will be serving as interim postmaster in the village. "I'll miss the people in Hensall, but am confident the public will continue to be well served by the staff," reads a farewell note from Russell. "I wish the staff all the goodwill and cooperation that has been shown to me over the past years." Workboot Olympics Although there were only four teams participating in this year's Kinsman Workboot Olympics, eve- ryone played hard and fast. The teams vied for points in nail ham- mering, brick piling, bale tossing, and wheelbarrow racing. After the dust settled, the winners were the Willert Connection, many of whom are from Hensall. Graduation Hensall Public School said good- bye to yet another group of grade eight graduates Thursday evening at a special graduation ceremony. Many awards were presented to the students selected for outstanding achievement, including the Kinetic Academic awards which went to Victoria Bisback and Shane Pepper. A special presentation was made to Kay Rathwell, school secretary, who is leaving Hensall Public School to begin a new job at South Huron District High School. Library The Hensall branch was overflow- ing at the season -end wrap-up for the storyhour program. The 25 children, younger brothers and sis- ters along with parents enjoyed songs. games, and a .picnic. A presentation was made to Janis Bis - back for all her help with the pro- gram this year. Storyhour will resume in Sep- tember. - Playground Anyone still interested in register- ing children for the Hensall Sum- mer Playground program maystill do so by dropping by the Village Office. Figure skating It may be June, but the Hensall Figure Skating Club were already raising money for next season at the recent Spring Fair. When the final figures were totalled, it was found $815.97 was raised by the hard work put in by the group at the food booth at the fair. Personals The families of Bev Bell, Ron 1 Hartman, Donnie Reid, Debbie Brock, Marion Goldsworthy from Hensall were among the 108 people who joined in the Nabisco trip to' Canada's Wonderland on Saturday. Three Links f The last meeting for the summer months was held for the Three Links Seniors was followed by a session of euchre where the high score prizes were won by Nellie Ri- ley and Stewart Blackwell. The seniors were reminded that the group is responsible for the Sep- tember birthday party for residents of Huronview. The next Three Links meeting will begin with a pot -luck supper at,� 6:30 p.m. on September 12. Shuffleboard The highest scores for the six game players at last week's shuffle- board were racked up by Dave Kyle, Jack Consitt and Marg Consist with scores of 418, 411, and 395 respec- tively. The show will be on August 24 at the Community Centre The annual Lions Club Ball tour- nament at the Community Centre on the weekend was a success. Teams from Stratford, London, Kitchener, Crediton, London, Gode- rich, Paul Bunyan Camp all arrived for the competition with Zurich. Bean Sprouts The Bean Sprouts Nursery School held their year end graduation party Friday evening at the Township Hall. Teen Mission Darcy Scott left for Teen Mission boot camp in Merrit Island, Florida Tuesday. He will spend three weeks preparing for his mission tour in Egypt. His mother, Rose- mary, is already at the camp help- ing out with the nursing needs. Bible school The children are reminded that the Vacation Bible School will be held in Zurich at Peter's Lutheran Church in the morning of July 3-7. Baseball games for area children are also commencing at both the Community Centre diamond and the Public School, in the evenings at 7 p.m. Personals Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Maxine Peters in Victoria Hospital, Herb Necb in University Hospital, and Ron Heimrich, Carol Prang and Evelyn Regier in St. Joseph's Hospital. Out patients returning home this week include Mozart Gelinas Sr., Lionel Cyr, and Mary Jacobs. Happy birthday wishes go to Mary Clausius for celebrating her 80th birthday on Sunday. A special mass was held , last week to mark the departure of Sister Mary Margaret Finn, who is leav- ing the St. Boniface parish after four years here. Josef and Connie Risi are back in town after a two-week vacation with friends and relatives in Swit- zerland. St. Peter's Lutheran Church held an outdoor service on Sunday, com- plete with a pot -luck lunch and baseball game to follow. The Swartzentruber annual family reunion held at the home of Orlen and Lorraine on Sunday brought re- lations from Toronto, Stratford, Ta- vistock, and Hanover as well as those closer to home in Exeter, Centralia, and Zurich. A bridal shower was held for Col- lette Bedard on Thursday at the Pine Ridge Chalet. Judy Morrison had the pleasure to display her antique doll collection at the annual Toy and Doll Day at the llderton Heritage Museum on Sun- day. Morrison's display was among other collections on show for the delight of the public, including toy tractors, trains, and teddy bears. Among the few excellent antique vehicles on hand was the 1932 four - door deluxe Chevrolet sedan owned by a well -know local couple, Or- land and Laurabelle Reichert. Zurich schools say goodbye to latest graduates St. Bonlface graduates - Zurich's St. Boniface Separate School graduated these students at a spe- cial mass and ceremony Thursday.
