Win Middlesex area title - The girls championship of a recent
Middlesex county elementary school softball tournament was
won by Biddulph Central School. Back, left, teacher Sharron
Colter, Julie Van Geel, Jane Grider, Denise Ward, Sarah Goudy and
Debbie tareenlee. Centre, Brenda Whitehead, Robin Jennings,
Pam Greenlee, Kim Hickson and Lisa Carroll. Front, Celeste Guth-

Slow -pitch champs - The Zurich Eagles claimed the "B" Champi-
onship on Sunday in the Zurich Lion's Club slow -pitch tourna-

Greys lose first game
EXETER - The Exeter Greys lost
for the first time in six games in
the South Perth Ladies Fastball
League games Monday night when
they were defeated 3-1 by St. Pauls
Station.
The key to the game was the
good defensive play by St. Pauls.
and the lack of offense by Exeter.
Bonnie Riehl earned the win for
St. Pauls after she allowed five hits
and struck out five and walked three
in seven innings of work.
The loss drops the Greys record
to 5-1.
The Greys improved their record
to 5-0 with an 8-0 whitewash of
Mitchell June 13.
The big hit in this game was a
base -loaded triple by Exeter's Sandi
Fremlin, which scored three runs.

Jitney - The Exeter Legion Men's Pairs lawn bowling tournament
brought 22 teams to the Exeter club for the second men's event
of the season. Peter McFalls of Exeter takes aim on the jack as
Wes Watson watches. McFalls won the tournament with the
help of his 14 year old son Allan, the youngest bowler in the tour-
nament.

were helped along by four walks.
Doug Schade, Baynham, Shaw,
Martin, Hecney all connected for
one single each, while Kevin Drager
and Parsons both belted doubles in
the sixth finning for Exeter off Or-
angeville pitcher Paul Vincer.
Shaw went the distance on the
mound for Exeter, allowing just the
two runs on seven hits and struck
out five and didn't walk a single bat-
ter.

Exeter scored all threeruns in this
game in the second inning. Drager
led off with a walk and Rob Dickey
followed with a homer for a 2-0 Ex-
eter Icad. Baynham was safe on a
fielder's choice, and scored when
Hccncy connected for a double.
The Express had a total of seven
hits in the game, all singles except
for Dickey's homer and Heeney's
double.
Steve Pearce also pitched the en-
tire game for Exeter. He gave up
only eight hits but made only one
mistake when he gave up a lead-off
homcr in the fourth inning.
Wheatleyhad the bases loaded in
the seventh inning with one out but
had their rally snuffed out when
Baynham pulled the hidden -ball
trick to perfection.
The Express will now have the
week off to recover from the tourna-
ment and their next league game
will be Tuesday when they play
host to Seaforth at 6:30 p.m.
They will also have some time
for their injuries to heal before
4complcting the tournament July 9.
Greg Hcrn and Brian Mercer both
have slightly torn hamstrings while
Parkinson is recovering from a mild
pulled groin.

Rain continues to plague play in
the league as the Greys had their
third game this season postponed
June 20 when they were scheduled
to play host to Sebringville.
'The Greys were scheduled to play
undefeated Crediton in Exeter yes-
terday, Tuesday night.
Next game for the Greys will be
Thursday, tomorrow when they
travel to Dublin for a 9 p.m. game.

Exeter Tigers
outscore Bears,
42-36 marathon
EXETER - The Exeter Tigers T -
ball team returned to the field this
week after being rained out for two
weeks. .
The Tigers met up with the other
Exeter team, the Bears, on Wednes-
day evening playing a marathon
game to a 42-36 finish. Fallon
Giles and Jared Neville led the scor-
ing for the Tigers batting in four
runs each.
Also making a strong showing at
the plate were Melissa De Young,
Laura Cooper, Jason Davey, Jamie
Keys, Zak Homuth, Megan Burke,
Dallas and Jenna Giles.
On Saturday, the Tigers travelled
to Centralia for a steamy game
against Centralia 2. The defensive
battle ended in a 26-20 win for Cen-
tralia.
Playing a strong game for the Ti-
gers were Geoffrey Duckworth,
Danny Ferguson, Marc Hodgins,
Amy Taylor and Dillon Carr.
The Tigers play Crediton 2 on
Saturday and arc looking forward to
the return of player Tommy Cooper
to his usual strong performance.
