Granton by Muriel Lewis
GRANTON - Several ladies from
the Granton area enjoyed a bus trip
to the Rose .Festival in Richmond,
Indiana on the weekend:
The Bryan family reunion was
held at the Granton park on Sunday,
June 25.
At the United Church on Sunday,
Rev. Bruce Pierce's sermon was
about God, the Sabbath, and peo-
ple. The lessons were from Deute-
ronomy 5 and Mark 2. Bernadine
Kop was•thc bulletin steward.
The choir sang the anthem "There
is a time" and the organist Ann
Bryan sang "He smiled on me". As
this was the last Sunday as organ-
ist, Mrs. Bryan was presented with
a Royal Doulton figurine by Mari-
lyn Humphrey on behalf of the con-
gregation, and the Clerk of the Ses-
sion Leroy Bryan gave the. address.
Rev. and Mrs. Brucc Pierce also
presented Ann with a gift and.Mrs.
Pierce read a pocm she had written..
Ann replied very graciously.
The service at the St. Thomas'
Anglican Church was withdrawn on
Sunday because of the Sabbath for
the Earth service at St. Patrick's
church, Saintsbury which was host-
ed by the Sunday School. A picnic
lunch followed.
Granton WI
The Granton Women's Institute
and friends cnjoycd lunch at Marsh's
store in Coldstream on June 21. A
short meeting followed when the
North Middlesex District W.I. pres-
ident'Margarct Harris of South
Lobo W.I. was the guest speaker.
She told some_ interesting things
about her life history, especially her I
family and her father.
The roll call was answered by
naming a favourite song and every-
body singing.
Florence Bryan gdve readings en-
titled "Have you noticed" and "Pure
Magic" and Muriel Lewis' read
"Open Your Hands" and about re-
spect for seniors.
President Muriel, Lewis led the
business discussion when a dona-
tion was made to the Granton ce-
metery and two bus trips were an-
nounced for July and -August.
Plans were also made to take part
in the Middlesex County W.I. rally
at Poplar Hill on July 18.
The next regular meeting will be
held in September.
Court Valentine
The ladies of Court Valentine Fo-
rester's Lodge met at the home of
Edith Youngson in St. Marys on
Tuesday evening, June 20, for a pot
luck picnic supper.
Mrs. Youngson presided and led
the' discussion when plans were
made for Fun Day. A committee.
was named to serve a dinner for
Court Carlton in September and the
lodge received an invitation to
Court Bluebell in October.
A_ donation was made to the
games for the disabled in Rich-
mond, B.C. sponsored by the Cana-
dian Order of Foresters. The next
regular- meeting will be held in Sep-
tembcr.

PARKHILL - Parkhill is .cele-
brating Canada Day with a bang.
Celebrations kick off with mer-
chant sidewalk sales on Thursday,

,The Lions Club will again hold
their tasty Canada Day pork and
beef roast on Saturday, July 1 in
Coronation Park on King Street.
Starting rat 6 p.m., tickets are $8
for adults, S3 for children 6-12, and
under 5 years free. Hot dogs and
harnburgerr will also be available,
and proceeds are to charity. Tickets
arc- available from Willy Heide-
brecht 294-0044.
And the event which everyone
looks forward to, The Canada Day
Fireworks, -will be presented by the
Parkhill Fire Department at dusk
on Saturday beside the Arena. Do-
nations will be gratefully accepted
at the gate. -

Exeter Villa
EXETER - Hello from everyone
at the Villa. We appreciated seeing
so many of bur fancily and friends
visit on Sunday. Our Pic Social
was a huge success.
Thcrc arc so many people to
thank for all of thcir hard work.
Many had 'worked together to make
it a good afternoon. A special
thank you to the Jug Band for their
wonderful music On such a hot af-
ternoon.
We will have a final total of our
money raised. for the Alzheimer So-
ciety next week.
Happy birthday this week to Eve-
lyn Heywood, who celebrates on
Canada Day.
The junior chojr from the Exeter
Public School started us off right
last week. We appreciate them com-
ing and singing last Monday morn-
ing.
We cnjoycd a treat for lunch last -
Wednesday - mini pizzas.- Residents
in the Lodge had the adventure of
creating their own pizza. It was dif-
'ficult to decide from all of the top-
pings. We hope to be able to have
them again in the future.
Lev. Don 'Rogers of the Exeter
Pentecostal Tabernacle conducted
our weekly worship services.
The Lioness hosted a strawberry
social last Thursday evening. Eve-
ryone enjoyed the music and cer-
tainly the fresh fruit of the season.
Thank you ladies for 'all your
thoughtfulness throughout the year.
We wish you all a safe and happy
summer.
Thought for the week: The trou-
ble with stretching the truth is that
it's apt to snap back.

Meet at Northlander

ELIMVILLE '- 'The Elimville
Women's Institute met at "North -
lander" in Exeter Tor their meeting
recently. The members enjoyed a
conducted tour through the plant
seeing the homes made from the
straight right through until it is
completely furnished ready to be
used. Evelyn Home thanked our
tour guide.
We then went to Elimville Unit-
ed Church for the rest of the meet-
ing. The meeting opened with the
Opening Ode and Mary Stewart
Collect.. The roll call was an-
swered by naming a famous person
born on a farm.
President, Shirley Cooper, was in
charge. of the business. Members
will receive notice of the July or
August meeting by telephone.- Ma-
rie Brock will be our representative .
to the South Hure'l Hospital auxil-
iary.
Marjorie Johns gave the report on
the District Annual held in Sea -
forth. The Exeter Fair display was
discussed. .
Isabelle Fletcher and Marie Brock
presented a dialogue of many items
affecting ow environment including
acid- rain, recycling and the use of
the "blue boxes" Isabelle had on
display many items that are safe to
the environment from ValueMart.
Thcrc included toilet tissue, wash
detergent, oil, paper plates and other
items.
Jean Lynn and Isabelle did a ques-
tion and answer dialogue with Isa-
belle asking the question and Jean
answering. A Kitchen Band con-
sisting of Marion Skinner, Grace
Pym, Ruth Skinner and Kay Mor-
ley with Evelyn Horne on the piano.

cnjoycd a social time.
A good crowd attendedthe Elim-
ville Sunday School Anniversary
on Sunday. Laura Skinner and
Brenda Elford lit the candles before
the service. The children and teach-
ers sang "Jesus Loves Mc" as they
proceeded to the choir loft where
they sang the "Hello Song."

AILSA" CRAIG - On June 21,
the Happy Gang Seniors met at the
Legion Hall for. our Dinner at 12
p.m. With Ann Stcwart at the pia-
no, we sang grace then cnjoycd a
lovely meal.
With president Levi White presid-
ing and Harold Guilfoyle as treasur-
er and Shirley Williams as secre-
tary, we had a short business
meeting. . -
The remainder of the afternoon
was spent playing cuchre\yith nine
tables playing 10 games.

Shauna Rowe read -the Call to
Worship "Hello- God". The hymns
were announced by Elizabeth Ker-
slake. Everyone joined in singing
"Magic Penny". The scripture was
read by Tracy Taylor. Mark Lynn
led in the responsive reading.
Janet Coward gave die highlights
of the Sunday School year.
Sandra' Rowe told the children's

ture followed by a prayer by Erin
• Coward. Joan Cooper read the an
neuncements. The offering was re-
ceived by Andrew Weston, Tyler
Taylor, Chad Smith and Matthew (�
Rowe with prayer by Trevor Skin-
ner. -
Janet introduced guest speaker
Don Curry with his Clown Minis-
try. This service was done by two
people in pantomirtae. The Sunday _ -
School children were very impressed '
with the clowns.' Joan thanked the
guests. •
Starr Hovius gave an invitation
to. lunch . in the Sunday School
rooms. Sharon Lynn presented the
two retiring superintendents, Janet
Coward and Joan Cooper, with gifts
from the Sunday School.
The Elimvillc United Church
Women will meet tonight - June 28
at 8 p.m. at the home of Jean
Johns. The program will be the
Stewardship and Finance committee
of Kaye Penhalc, Carolyn Johns and
Joyce Fulton. The roll call will be
make a money donation for the
Children's Hospital of Western On-
tario. The hostesses will be Marion
Johns and Shirley (H) Kerslake.
Church services for the summer
will be July 2 - Thames Road; July,
9-- Elimvillc; July 23- Elimville;
July 30 - picnic at Morrison Dam;
August 6 - Thames Road: These
services will be held at 10 a:m.
