CLINTON - June 24, will be a
big day for a number of Scouts
from the Blue Water Region as they
will be receiving their Chief.
Scout's Award Certificates.
Hugh Robertson, Provincial
Commissioner for Boy Scouts of
Canada, will be presenting the cer-
tificates during a recognition cere-
mony at Wesley -Willis United
Church, Clinton on June 24. The
ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.
Doug Hancock, president of the
Blue water Region, announced re-
cently that Jason McElrea of Kirk -
ton, Brian Switzer of St. Marys,
and Steve Wheeler of St Marys of
the 1st Kirkton Scout Troop will
be among the award recipients.
The Chief Scout's Award can be
earned by any Scout who in the
judgement of his fellow Scouts and
his Scouters, exemplifies the prin-
ciples of Scouting through his lead=
ership, his voluntary service to his
community, and his outdoor skills.
The award was inaugurated in
September, 1973 by His Excellen-
cy, Governor General Roland Mi-
chener, C.C., C.M.M.C.D., in his
capacity of Chief Scout of Canada.
He had been greatly impressed by
the many projects 'through which
Scouts rendered service to others
and helped to improve>{the natural
environment, and he felt that such
acts should be specially recognized.
Recipients are recommended for
the award by their fellow Scouts
and Scourers.
