Clandeboye WI tours Exeter
CLANDEBOYE - The June meet-
ing of the Clandeboye Women's In-
stitute took us on a tour around Ex-
eter, arranged by Velma Hardy,
convener or Canadian Industries.
The first stop was "Northlander In-
dustries, Mobile Housing", where
we saw mobile homes being built
from start to finish.
A drive around Exeter to see
many new homes that have been
built recently, tells us the building•
industry is busy. Next stop was the
"Three AAA" Restaurant, where it.
is plain to see the "Food Industry"
is a busy concern. Fourteen W.I.
members and two visitors enjoyed
lunch together in a private dining
room. -
Mrs. Wilmer Scott was presented
with a bouquet of fresh flowers in
honour of her 75th birthday and as a
member of the Clandeboye Wom-
en's Institute for 53 years. Congrat-
ulations Mary!
A short meeting was held follow-
ing the meal. The roll call, "Name
a product, produced in Canada that
we use every day."
Mary Scott gave the report of the
District Annual and also reminded
the members of the County Rally
at Poplar Hill on July 18 and the
Tweedsmuir History Curator's
workshop at Straffordville on Au-
gust 8.
The Institute members arc attend-
ing the Huron Country Playhouse,
on August 16, to see the musical,
"The King and I".
The meeting completed, we had
one more industry still to visit,
"The Sugar and Spice" chocolate
factory on Highway 83 . west. A
very interesting and tempting place
to visit. Very few left without pur-
chasing some sweets.
As we journeyed home, some of
our members stopped at Rundle's
Strawberry Patch arid picked a
Lucan CWL
to buy signs
couple of boxes of berries as this
Ontario industry was making it's
first appearance this year.
The "Mystery Tour" enjoyed with
the Lucan Seniors is no longer a
'mystery. With Hazel Cunningham
as convener and Peter McNaughton
as bus driver and tour guide, we left
Lucan at 8:30 a.m. and journeyed
through the town of St. Marys,
viewing the restored Stone build-
ings, such as the "Opera House",
Train Station, etc.
On through Tavistock and
Shakespeare to Kitchener for a tour
around there, then on to Elmira for
an hour of browsing at the Bronx
village, before a delicious dinner at
the "Stone Crock". An hour's drive
around the Mennonite countryside,
LUCAN - The Lucan C.W.L. de-
cided to purchase sign(s) to be put
on the Service Clubs' sign(s) at the •
entrance(s) to Lucan, to let visitors
and residents know that there is in
' fact a C.W.L. in the community.
We are donating a sum of money
for the next five years to a renova-
tion and refurbishing project cur-
rently underway at' Kings College,
• U.W.O.
Father's Day - the ladies made a
donation to the Multiple Sclerosis
Society and purchased roses which
various members of the C.W.L.
gave to the fathers of the parish at
all the weekend Masses.
Pot -luck dinner, which was post-
poned from June is to be held on
September 10, 1989. Mrs. Sue Barr
is to be the speaker giving us the
highlights of her recent trip to Ban-
gladesh, with her adopted daughter
from that country, and illustrating
her talk with slides.
C.W.L. ladies arc organizing a
bus trip to the Ford Museum in De-
troit to view a very unique quilt ex-
hibition being held there this year.
The date is October 11, a Wednes-
day. League members will be given
first option, but after September
20, we. will open it up to members
of the community.
Conservation and environmental
issues were the discussion focus for
the evening, and this was followed
by a "last -meeting -until -the -fall -
Party."
Graduatp - William Ross Mac-
Gregor, son of Susan MacGre-
gor, and the late Charles F.
MacGregor, graduated June 13,
