Campbell proves he
is 'Star of
MONTREAL Exeter's Joel
Campbell is proving to himself
and others that he is a hockey star
of tomorrow. •
Campbell, 14, recently played
in a hockey tournament in Mon-
treal called "The Stars of Tomor-
row" and was a dominant force.
Campbell said his friend in
Brantford who was trying out for
the team and asked hien if he also
wanted to try out. Campbell easi-
ly made the team, made-up of 13,
14 and 15 year-olds from Ontario
and Quebec. The team was called
the Coca Cola Kids and was spon-
sored by a Coke Company from
New York State.
He played- against other teams
from Lac Ste. Louis Quebec, Hal-
ifax, Oshawa and Ottawa.
The Exeter Public School, grade
eight student picked up 11 goals
and 15 assists in just five games, .
while his line from Ontario domi-
nated play in the tournament.
The team 'also went on to win
the tournament, despite having
very little time to get acquainted
with one another. Campbell re-
ceived a trophy and a banner for
being on the winning team.
"We had only one practice on
the Thursday afternoon and played
our first game Thursday night so
we really had'to get to know each

other in a hurry," said Campbell.
He added the level of competi-
tion in the tournament was very
good, which brought some scouts
out to watch, looking for prospec-
tive talent.
Campbell, who played for the
Hawks last season, said he may
also be invited to another tourna-
ment, an international tournament,
in Boston, in the very near future.
Campbell, who at 13 was one of
the youngest ever to play Junior D
hockey in Exeter last year, said he •
found junior • hockey a little bit
faster and rougher than what he
was used to. 1 -le still managed to
score eight goals and added 16 as-
sists in 36 games during the regu-
lar season for the Hawks.
He said he went to the Hawk's
training camp trying to gain some
experience and never expected to
make the team, and was overjoyed
when he eventually did. If Camp-
bell had played minor last year he
would have only been in the Pee
Wee Division.
He said he would like to attend
the St: Marys Lincoln's Jr. B
training camp in thefall and see
how long he can stay there. He
said he would also entertain an of-
fer to play for the Hawks again, if
possible, because he is expecting
the team to have a good season.
Star of tomorrow - Lxeter's Joel Campbell recently played in a
