They will be going to the Regional finals this week. Busy weekend By Susan Hartman HENSALL - It sure was a busy weekend in Hensall. There were yard sales galore on Saturday as well as a Fireman's breakfast, an OPP Bike Rodeo, a Puppet Show at thc Library and a live radio broad- cast from downtown Hensall. Hensall Minor Hockey raised $1290 at their yard sale and are thanking everyone involved. It was a great success so everyone start saving your "Junque" for next year. Special thanks to General Homes and General Coach of Hensall for their generous donations. On Sunday, 40 hardy people walked from Exeter to Hensall in the Hensall Kinsmen's Moonwalk. Over $3000 was raised by the walk- ers and another $800 at the Toll booth. All money gots to the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Thanks for the support to Doug Mock of Hu- rondale Dairy, and Ron McTaggart of Knechtels for donating drinks and hot dogs. Also to Don Walker of Radio FM 96, Bruce Shaw, Adrian Harte, The Hensall Kinettes and to everyone who walked or sponsored a walker. Challenge Tonight is Hensall's. Kinette sponsored "Participation North/ South Challenge". Represent your side of Hensall in a 15 min. "walk- about town". The Registration Desk, located in the Municipal Office parking lot, will be open from 6-9 p.m. Show us your community spirit, walk - just for the Health of it! Scouting There will be a pot -luck supper and "Swim -up" .on June 8 at Tom Bailey's for the Hensall Scouting Movement. The Beavers and Cubs arc to bring a salad or main dish. Scouts bring dessert and Ventures please bring dessert and rolls. Be at the Baileys at 7 p.m. Cubs and Scouts will go to Rock Glen for an evening of swimming, water sliding, etc. on June 20. The Ventures camped in April at Camp Saugeen. Mark Brock re- ceived the .Queen's Venturers Award. in Hensall The Scouts attended Patrol Camp in April, planted trees for Canada , hiked the Bruce Trail and went fish- ing at Morrison Dam. Hensall Cubs also planted trees and camped this past weekend at Benmiller. The Beavers attended their annual District Beaverce at Benmiller on Saturday. Story Hour Story hour at the Hensall Library this week was all about "Fish". The children heard stories and sang songs about fish, made a pet fish to take home and even got to try their luck with a fishing pole. Story - hours will continue at 10 a.m. Monday mornings until the end of June. All 3, 4 and 5 year olds are welcome to join us. .HDHS Don't forget to call Cathy Mann if you are interested in the Lark - whistle trip sponsored by the Hen- sall and District Horticultural Soci- ety. The bus will leave the Church at 8:30 a.m. not 7:30 as previously stated. United Church A work bee is planned for June 3 starting at 8;30 for a general clean- up of the church and windows. The Ladies afternoon group will meet June 1st at 2:30. The Friend- ship Club meets June 5 at 8:00. Next Sunday, June 4 Communion will be served. Carmel Presbyterian Church On Sunday, Carmel Presbyterian Church celebrated its 141st Anni- versary with many old friends and acquaintances and former members in attendance. Rev. Mark Gaskin introduced the guest minister Rev. George Vais who had been pastor here from 1959-1960, Rev. 'Vais told of his many experiences in church work since he left Hcnsall; about his family and the many people who have kept in contact with him. Times -Advocate, May 31, 1989 - Page 21 Playground supervisors needed By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - Any teenagers inter- ested in being the supervisor and as- sistant for the Zurich summer play- ground program this summer from July 17 to August 25 are to contact Maureen Simmons at thc Munici- pal office or Jim Ramer at the Arc- na before Friday, June 2. Music recital A lovely musical recital was pre- sented by the older students of Lau- rie Erb (who take private lessons) held at S. Peters Lutheran church on Sunday evening. A variety of piano selection were played with a few on the electronic keyboard. Lessons will be done for the sum- mer after the week of June 15. P.T.A. meeting The P.T.A. general meeting was held at St. Boniface School auditor- ium last Wednesday evening. A cheque for 5500 was presented to principal Dave Sharpe to go to- wards new curtains for the auditori- um stage.. Elections of new officers were held for the next school term and reads as follows: president - Debbie Denomme, Vice-president - Sue Rau, Second vice - Carmel Swee- ney, Secretary - Charlene Finkbein- er, Treasurer - Elaine Beauchamp, Councillors - Janet Durand and Hel- en Miller. The Spiritual Director is Fr. Peter Hayes. Farewell gifts were presented to sister Mary Margaret and to Lorne Rideout who is going to Hensall af- ter being at St. Boniface for the past ten years. There will be three new teachers in the fall. Draws were made on the recent pay -what -you -pull tickets and the winners were Jason Finkbeiner and Francis Bedard of Zurich and third prize to Nancy Atkins of Thames - ford. Auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary meeting will be held on June 6 at 7 p.m. as usual in the Rcst Home Board Room followed by thc Home's an- nual meeting at 8. Personals Congratulations to Valerie Seyler and Brad Booker who were married in Waterloo on May 27. The bride is the daughter of Ken and Arlene Seyler of Zurich. Congratulations to Joanne and Kevin Oke on the recent arrival of a baby boy. Golden Glimpses ZURICH - On Tuesday evening, the students of Miss Idella Gabel presented the second half of their music recital, which, as usual, was very much enjoyed by thc Resi- dents. The Zurich Public School stu- dents visited on Wednesday morn- ing which gave everyone a review of their Spring concert. Residents enjoy the visits from the school as many of thcm have grandchildren taking part in the program. Lorne Fleischauer is still a pa- tient in South Huron Hospital and Jean Campbell is a patient in Gode- rich General and Marinc Hospital. We wish them a speedy recovery. The Sunday evening chapel ser- vice was conducted by the Blake Conservation Mennonite'church.
