The Sundowners won the Women's "B" championship. Men's "B" champs - The Exeter Mohawks showed they can play baseball .as well as hockey when they won the Men's "B" championship in .the Exeter Express Slow -Pitch tournament on the week- end. Grand Bend teams off to good start GRAND BEND - The Grand Bend Mirror Soccer teams have gotten off to a good start so far this season winning almost all of their games. The Squirts played their first game of the season at home against Lucan and won 3-0. Joshua De- Bruyn scored the first goal of the season with Jeremy 'Arnold and Blake Smith notching the others. . On Thursday, they played Lucan.1 at home, The game was scoreless at the end of the first half. In the sec- ond half, Arnold exploded for four goals and Shawn Maguire scored the other for a 5-0 Grand Bend win. • The next Squirt game will be Thursday night at 7 p.m. when Ex- eter 1 will be at the Grand Bend field behind the Legion Hall for a 7 p.m. game. Tony Mennen is coaching the Squirts this season The Atoms have played one game and. lost a 3-2 squeaker in St. Co- lumban, with Brian Tcdrick and Leslie Stcfanake getting the makers. They played host to Nairn Mon- day night and will play Lucan 1 in Lu can Thursday night at 7 p.m. Coaching the Grand Bend Atoms this season will be Karry Forrester. The Mosquitos have yet to play this season but will be playing their first game tonight, Wednesday, in Coldwater, and will be coached by Henry Bysma. The Grand Bend Pee Wees have won both of their starts so far this season, beating St. Columban 5-2 at Kelder's Field May 16. Jeff Lingard notched a pair of markers, while Mark Fluter, Mark Mollard and Colin Struth picked'up one goal each. Grand also beat Lucaw, in Lucan by an 8-4 count. Fluter led the way with three goals, Mol!ard and Lingard each picked up a pair and the single went -to Keith Crawford. The next Pee Wee game will be June 6, when Exeter while be at Kerder's Field for a game. The Pec Wees are coached this season by Burt Vandenbygaert. At Grand Bend -Bantams, beat II- derton at home in their first game of the season by a 4-1 score. Grevs win first three EXETER - The Exeter Greys La- dies Fastball team have gotten their 1989 season off to a flying start, winning their first three games in rather convincing fashion. On May 16, the Greys played host to Dublin and came way 11-1 winners. On May 22, they travelled Ladies Slo-pitch underway EXETER - The Exeter Ladies Slow -Pitch season got off to a wet start this year. On May 11 rain cancelled all of the first scheduled games of the season. Downtown Dollies drowned DR Darlins on a drier evening to com- plete their game. An games rained out must be made up by the end of July. They will try to rescheduled early to avoid any last-minute panic. Games on May 18 were played under more favorable conditions, giving unconditioned muscles a chance to perform.without•risk of injury. Close.conteSts were waged be- tween Downtown Dollies and Al- batross Angels, South Huron Hos- pital and Inn Girls and Cheers and Electrolites, with Dollies, the Hos- pital and the Inns coming out with victories and two points. The Sun - downers were also successful against the Naturals. Team reps are reminded that score sheets are to be turned in to Janice Brock -by Friday afternoon for each game won. Ironwood Ladies Golf League Results EXETER - The Ironwood Ladies Golf League played twice last week because of the Victoria Day holiday on May 22. That day's golf was played on Thursday and Monday's was played as scheduled. On Monday, Janet Hcaman had low gross in the "A" flight with 48, and low net went to Marg Schilbe with 37. Helen Burton had second low gross and Marlene Par- sons second low net. Anita Cooke had the lowest putts. Louise Pincombe had low gloss honors in the "B" flight. Suc Ste- phens had low net with 36. Ida Mathers had second low gross score and Julianne Varley had second low net honors. Gail Murray had the fewest putts in "B" flight. Valerie Scott lcd the way with low gross laurels in "C" ;tight while Audrey Scott's 38 was good for the low net in the flight. Ede Boyle won second low gross and Carol Rideout was second low net winner, while Lois Wallace made the fewest putts. Marlene Parsons won the longest drive on the first hole and Bonnie Ross was closest to the pin on number 7 in two` shots. In the "B" flight, Lorna Russell was the low gross winner while Grace Drummond was the winner in the low net. Julianne Varley was the longest drive winner on the first hole while Bernice Thompson was closest to the pin on #7 two shots. The "C" flight low gross winner was Sue Stephens, while Linda Parkinson took low net honors. Jean Shipway had the longest drive on the first hole and Helen Kints was the closest to #7 in two shots. Thursday's night's golf was spon- sored by Flower Pedlar and Janet Wedlake was the only skins winner, taking $11.10. to Mitchell and won by a 10-4 score and last Thursday they played at Sebringvillc and beat the home team 14-5. Patti Down was the winning pitcher in the Dublin and Sebring- villc wins, while Heidi Elleott picked up the win in the game against Mitchell. Sandra Burns' and Tess Nether), led Greys in offence in the win over Dublin, both picking up three hits in five at bats. In the win over Mitchell, Cindy Down and Sandy Fremlin led the way offensively, each picking up three hits in four at bats, when they beat Sebringvillc As well as picking up the win on the mound, Down led the way of- fensively going four -for -five, while Ellcott picked up three hits in four at bats. The Greys played host to St. Marys yesterday, Tuesdny, night. They next game for the Greys is Tuesday night when they will play host to Denfield at 9 p.m. in Exet- er. Steve Vandcnberk led the way with a pair of. tallies,and singles ,went to Dave MacGuire and Brad Page. They played in Exeter Monday night and will play Thursday in 11- derton. Martin Vandenbcrk will coach the Bantams this season.
