WI Annual held
POPLAR HILL - Komoka and
Coldstream Women's Institute were

Thoughts on this years theme
"Preserving our precious environ-
ment" were given by Ilderton W.I.
We arc to blame for most of our en-
vironment problems. What can I
do? If you're not part of thc solu-
tion, you must he part of the prob-
lem. So let's try to preserve our
beautiful country by learning how
we can help.
A poem entitled "At Journey's
End" was read and a red rose was
presented in memory of our de-
ceased members by Prospect Hill
W.I.
President, Louise Gordon was
presented with a corsage. She
thanked everyone for the interesting
years she had and the visits to each
branch throughout the District.
She expressed how she had enjoyed
her two year term as District presr-
dcnt:
Mrs. Fran Hyatt, Provincial
Board Director asked all the District
Directors to come forward to be rat-
ified for another term. These ladies
arc the liaison between the District
in Poplar Hill
and the Branch.
In March of this year, 17 wom-
en's organizations throughout the
Province joined together and formed
Farm Women's Network. A S10
membership fee is available by con-
tacting Donna Lunn, R.R. 1, Bel-
mont, Ontario. NOL 180.
June is W.I. Month, so it was de-
cided to let the branches do some-
thing special at their meetings to
celebrate this.
The Arca Convention is to be
held on October 12 at the Embro
Community Centre and we are cele-
brating the 75th anniversary. There
will be a vote at this convention to
either continue with a one day con-
vention or to go back to the two
day convention.
Poplar Hill Park is the setting for
this year's 34th Middlesex County
Rally on July 18 with registration
at 10 a.m. Bring your own lunch,
cup or mug, and a lawn chair. Des-
sert and beverage will be provided.
Marilyn Thompson reported we
have 234 members in Middlesex -
North District.

lore competition; write letters to

Exeter United Church news
EXETER - Members of Exeter
United Church have been enjoying
a lot of soup this past year for two
reasons. The first and obvious is
that it hits the spot and gives us en-
ergy to keep going. The second is
that Campbell's soup labels have
enabled the Evangelical School for
the Deaf in Puerto Rico to "keep
going" as well. Over 6,000 Camp-
bell's soup labels have been sent
from our church to the school. The
school, hoping for continued re-
sponse of these labels, has already
ordered a second van.
Many thanks to Susan MacGre-
gor and the Christian Development
Committee for coordinating the la-
bel collection. We wish much suc-
cess to the students of the School
in all their endeavors.
The Property and Finance Com-
mittee announced at the Official
Board meeting on Wednesday eve-
ning their plans for some sprucing -
up projects around the church and
manse. If you have some extra
time and would like a change to
wield a paintbrush, give Bevan
Shapton a call.
Our sympathy is extended to
Shirley Kirk and family in the loss
of her husband, the late Gordon
Kirk, and to the family of the late
Douglas Wilson.
Morning worship on Sunday,
May 28 followed the same format
as was being used for worship at
London Conference Annual Meet-
ing, being held in Tillsonburg this
week. The theme for the Confer-
ence was "Healing the Body". Since
Rev. Hawley and Bev Robinson
were in attendance at the Confer-
ence, the members of the Worship
and Music Committee led this
thought-provoking service.
A highlight of the service was the
presentation of song by the Youth
of Note. Their selection, "The Tree
song", tied in beautifully with the
theme for Sunday School which
was Nurturing Good Growth, or
Growing with Love for the younger
children.
Congratulations are sent to Don
Richardson, husband of Bev Robin-
son, who was ordained at the Lon-
don Conference Annual Meting this
past weekend. He has accepted the
call to thc pastoral charges of
Brucefield/Kippen churches.
Forthcoming marriage
Michelle Ann Bayer and Paul
Ernest Hem are pleased to an-
nounce their forthcoming marri-
age on Saturday, June 10,
1989 in Exeter United Church,
Exeter, Ontario. The wedding
will take place at 3 in the after-
noon. Open reception to follow
at Kirkton at 9 p.m.
