They were scheduled to play. Strathroy in Exeter, but because of bad weather in Strathroy Tuesday, only six players ventured north for the game. Those same two teams met in Exeter last Tuesday with the locals taking a 5-3 decision on the chin. In that contest, the visitors scored three times in the third inning, on just four hits. - The Express finally got on the board in their half of the sixth in- ning. With one out, Dickey walked, Dave Haytcr singled, moving Dick- ey to third. Dickeythen scored on a fielder's choice and Hayter moved to second. Hayter later scored on a fielder's choice by Peter Heenev. Strathroy got that back in their half of the seventh when they con- nected for a pair of doubles. But Exeter answered again in the bottom of the seventh. Dave Shaw led off with a single, went to sec- ond on a passed ball, moved to third on a ground out and scorcd on a fielders choice. But Strathroy regained their two - run advantage with, a final run in the top of the eighth, while picking up only one hit. Shaw led the Exeter attack with four singles, and was hit by a pitch. Hayter also chipped in with three singles. The Express will be playing host to their annual Slow -Pitch Tourna- ment this weekend with the cham- pionship games taking place about 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Next league action for the Ex- press is Tuesday when they travel to Scaforth for a 6:30 p.m. contest. Junior Panthers drop playoff LISTOWEL - Last Monday, South lluron District High School's Junior Boys' soccer team ended their playoff season when they were defeated by Listowel Lords in the Huron -Perth quarter- finals, played in Listowel. The Panniers worked hard against thcir opponents hut fell by the 3-' countto the Lords. South Huron's lone goal scorer was Brett Rideout, while Bill Jenni- son played another fantastic game on defence for the Panthers. Darryl Beaver was this year's high scorer with four goals. Ryan Hern chipped in with three, Brett Rideout two and Pete McAllister, Geoff Sanders, Dave Maguire each added one each. Coach Bill Shore felt his team had a successful season and would like to thank the boys for their ded- ication and effort, and for showing that they are a team with class. Seniors Iosein finals By Michelle Ellison EXETER - Last week, South Hu- ron District High School's Senior Boys Soccer team played three playoff games advancing to the league finals in the process. The Panthers defeated Clinton and Goderich to find themselves in the lluron-Perth final game on Friday against Stratford Central. In the Huron -Perth quarter -final game against Clinton last Monday, the Panthers controlled the play and took an easy 2-0 victory. A penalty shot by Dave O'Connor gave South Huron a 1-0 lead and Henri DeBruyn assured the win on a 15 -yard shot. Besides a couple of close calls, the Panthers carried the play to advance to the H -P final game against Stratford Central on Friday. The Panthers played a tough game against Central but were defeated 4- 0. The boys played well early in the game hitting two goal posts and having one goal called back. Unfor- tunately, their opponents took the victory. Coach, George McEwan was pleased with his team's season and wishes to congratulate the whole team on a great season. Baynham did have a couple of hits however but the Express lost 5-3. Pages Junior Panthers at WOSSA badminton LONDON - The South Huron Junior Badminton team had players in WOSSA last Saturday at London Saunders S.S. Tiffany Tryon dcfcated Glencoe in Girls' Singles before losing to a Woodstock Collegiate player and to Oakridge to put her out of the dou- ble elimination tournament. Tiffany is a first-year Junior and hopefully she will be back next ycar even bet- ter! Andrea Francis and Ian Verbeek arc the current Huron -Perth Junior Mixed Champions. At WOSSA, they claimed the bronze medals for a third-place finish. In girls' doubles, Becky Morgan and Carrie Oke, also Huron -Perth champion, had a very successful day winning WOSSA silver medals for a second -place finish. Morgan and Oke seemed to have a relatively easy time in most of their matches.
