EXETER - The Exeter Express
picked their first win of the season
the easy way on Tuesday, by for-
feit.
They were scheduled to play.
Strathroy in Exeter, but because of
bad weather in Strathroy Tuesday,
only six players ventured north for
the game.
Those same two teams met in
Exeter last Tuesday with the locals
taking a 5-3 decision on the chin.
In that contest, the visitors scored
three times in the third inning, on
just four hits.
- The Express finally got on the
board in their half of the sixth in-
ning. With one out, Dickey walked,
Dave Haytcr singled, moving Dick-
ey to third. Dickeythen scored on a
fielder's choice and Hayter moved to
second. Hayter later scored on a
fielder's choice by Peter Heenev.
Strathroy got that back in their
half of the seventh when they con-
nected for a pair of doubles.
But Exeter answered again in the
bottom of the seventh. Dave Shaw
led off with a single, went to sec-
ond on a passed ball, moved to third
on a ground out and scorcd on a
fielders choice.
But Strathroy regained their two -
run advantage with, a final run in
the top of the eighth, while picking
up only one hit.
Shaw led the Exeter attack with
four singles, and was hit by a pitch.
Hayter also chipped in with three
singles.
The Express will be playing host
to their annual Slow -Pitch Tourna-
ment this weekend with the cham-
pionship games taking place about
4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Next league action for the Ex-
press is Tuesday when they travel
to Scaforth for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
