Crediton ladies fastball team
start year with winning streak
CREDITON - It's that time of
year again!
The Crediton ball diamond is
busy every night of the week in-
cluding the Crediton Cowgirls la=
dies fastball team on Monday
nights.
The local team has two new valu-
able players this year, a strong
pitcher and all-round player, Teresa
McGee and another strong infielder,
Mary McKillop, along with some
strong regulars which have returned
after a year off. Add them to last
year's team and it looks like a good
year.
Darrel Finkbeiner is again giving
his time as coach to the team.
The Crediton squad have had two
great showings in their first two
games.
The first night, on May 15, the
home squad defeated Denfield. by a
score of 7-0.
Brenda Morgan, Crediton's pitch-
er, posted her first shutout of the
year.
She notched nine strikeouts to
her credit.
Tammy Regier helped her team
to the victory by batting four for
four. Teresa Van Raay belted out aru
homen to clear the bases and also
laid down a bunt to get her to first.
Kelli Phillips was two for three
trips to the plate while Brenda
Wilds and Kate Steeper belted out a
double and triple respectively.
Adding singleswere Brenda
Wilds, Teresa McGee, Mary
McKillop and Debbie Lord.
Judy Steeper, Teresa McGee and
Kate Steeper helped the team to
take the win defensively.
Crediton 7 - St. Pauls 3
In their second league game, the
Crediton ladies travelled to St.
Pauls on May 22 and after a very
competitive game, were victorious
by a score of 7-3.
Crediton started off very strong
inthe first inning with hits by
Tammy Regier, Brenda Wilds and
Teresa McGee which brought in
They added two more runs in the
third inning with hard hit balls by
Debbie Lord and Teresa McGee.
Crediton stayed at this score for
the next three innings, allowing
their opponent to catch up with
two runs in the third and one run in
the fifth on well hit balls.
In the seventh inning, the Cow-
girls started to hit the fast pitches
of Connie Bell and brought in three
morc runs off the bats of Tammy
Regier with a double, Brenda Wilds
with a triple and Debbie Lord with
a single.
Great defensive plays were ac-
complished by Karen Williams, Te-
resa McGee, Lori Devlacminck and
Tammy Rcgier.
Brenda Morgan again went the
distance for Crcditon notching 10
strikeouts to her record. She al-
lowed only cight hits.
Next league action for Crediton is
Monday night at 9 p.m. on their
home diamond. -

Panthers start first cycling
GUELPH - South Huron District
High School has just recently
formed its first-ever Cycling Club.
Last Wednesday, seven of the
• members attended their first race of
the season in Guelph and did better
than expected.
Coach Greg Hoggarth, felt his
team performed very well for their
first race and they will be looking
forward to future races, especially
their own which will be held at
South Huron in September.
Troy Robinson brought home the
Panthers' best time, in 48 minutes,
49 seconds, followed by Scott For-
' gics with a time of 52:52 and Scott
Crawford finished in 55:55. Also
Eyeing it in - Jeff Butler, of the Exeter Junior Co-ops,- eyes the ball
into his glove as he attempts to catch a pop fly during their game
against Clinton in Exeter last Wednesday. The local squad
dumped Clinton 14-1, then beat Lucan in a slug fest Sunday, 29-
12.

Minor soccer starts
EXETER - The 1989 soccer sea-
son started this past *week with
most teams seeing action.
In the Squirt Division Exeter 1
defeated Exeter 2, by a score of 2-0.
This score was kept close with
good field play by Chad Monteith
and Kim McLean of Exeter 2.
The other two Squirt teams faced
off against each another with Exeter
3, defeating teams faced off against
each another with Exeter 3 defeat-
ing Exeter 4, by a score do 2-0.
The pair of Exeter 3 goals were
,,:ored by Ryan Beattie with the
help from Casey O'Brien and Ryan
Sullivan. Exeter 4 had a slow first
half but came back with a strong
second half getting good offence
from Patrick Foster, while Beth

Glencoe for their game and defeated
the Wcc'ens 5-0 with Theresa Wil-
helm scoring all the goals.
The 12 -and -under girls played in
Exeter against Wallace Town and
dcfcated them by a 1-0 score, with
Amy Edwards scoring the lone
goal.
The Exeter PeeWee team dcfcated
Nairn by a score of 6-0 with Saun-
caay Sengkhounmany and Jamie
