Loan program - to continue TORONTO - The allocation sys- tem for distributing funds to mu- nicipalities under the Tile Drainage Act Loan Pr6gram adopted last year will be continued for 1989- 1990, Ontario Ministry of Agricul- ture and Food Jack Riddell an- nounced Friday. The interest rate applied to de- bentures purchased by the province under the program will remain at eight percent. "We expect this system to work even .more effit:iently this year since farmers and municipalities are familiar with all the details from last year," said Riddell. Municipalities receive an initial budget for the tile loans based on their level of spending over the past three years. Adjustments to these allocations are made through- out the year to reflect actual de- mand for loans in each municipali- ty. . Loa% to any one individual may not exceed 75 percent of the cost of tile drainage works, the amount re- quested by the farmer or $20,0Q, whichever is less. The moderator of the national videoconference is Broadcaster Adrienne Clarkson and national panelists include FCA Director Alastair Clayton, Dr. David Roy founder of the Centre for Bioethics in Montreal and other representa- tives of business, industry and the law who are knowledgeable about AIDS policy. The deadline has been extended past the original deadline of April 28. This employment program is an opportunity for young people from 15 to 24, with no farm experience, to live and work on a farm for eight weeks in the summer. The youth is paid a training allowance of $35 per day and has every other weekend off. - The farmer pays $17 of this and is required to provide room and board. The host family is also re- quired to train the young person and to encourage involvement in community activities such as 4-H and Junior Farmers. This is an excellent experience for both the youth and the host farmer. - For more information, contact your local Agricultural or Canada Employment Centre or the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
