Education Week - Education
Week is a time when we celebrate
the good things about the school
year. We are also celebrating the
20th year of the County Board of
Education.
We had a Stephen Galleria'paint-
ing day. Grades Kdg. through Five
chose their own topic. We used the
best paper in the school. We usual-
ly use tempera block but this time
everyone used liquid tempera
paints. Mr. Laye is putting up spe-
cial picture rails in the halts for
hanging pictures. On April 24 un-
til May 4, parents can come to
look at our Galleria Paintings.
The Junior Choir are learning the
song Opening Up the World. The
Primary Choir is doing a musical
play called The Little Train. The
Seniors are working on one also.
This is going to bca busy month.
- Brent Ratz, Grade 4.
Room 9 Reports
Stephen Galleria - On Fri.,
April 14 Rooms 5 to 12 painted
pictures. They will be on display
from April 24 to May 4. Every
student chose their own topic.
High School band perfor-
mance - On Apr. 18 the Exeter
High School Band came to Stephen
to perform some songs for us. Two
girls danced to "Rock Around the
Clock". We enjoyed the good
show.,
Primary choir performance
- Our Primary Choir is performing
an operetta on May 3 called "The
Little Train". Everyone is invited.
It is the story of a train that gets
stuck trying to cross a mountain..
Many trains will not help -him, un-
til the Little Blue Engine arrives.
Room 9 readers - Everyone in
Room 9 has a chance each week to
read a story for the rest of us. We
get 5 minutes to read and the rest
of us are a good audience. -
Room 9 telling times - Our
classis practicing telling time. We
do activity cards and clocks.
Room 9 Spelling text - We
have been practicing special
spelling words from a text every
week. We started this five weeks
ago. Our spelling text goes home
every night for practice. Some peo-
ple get perfect on our Friday
Spelling Dictation.
Room 9 Creative writing -
Everyone now uses a picture card
for this job. First we examine the
picture and answer Who, What,
Where, When and Why for it. Then
we write a rough copy of a story
about the picture. This gets handed
in to Mrs. Atthill to be edited. Next
we write a good copy and put it in
our Creative Writing Duo -tang. We
do one story each week.
The Phoenix and the Car-
pet - The Phoenix and the Carpet
wasa story written by E. Nesbit
about a mythical bird and a magic
flying carpet: Room 6 watched the
video program of the adventures of
four children, the Phoenix and the
carpet. There were eight episodes in
all.
Room 6 really enjoyed the pro-
gram but some thought the ending
was very sad. - By Tia Shultz, Peg-
gy Brownlee, Judd Desjardine, Jeff
Finkbeiner.
High School Band enter-
tains - On Tuesday, April 18th the
South Huron High School Band and
Choir came to Stephen Central.
They performed before the entire
school in the gymnasium.
- By Craig Wragg and Jacob Webber.

eter Public School the boys basket-
ball tournament was held, while the
