Lancers -sweep
Lucan Irish
LUCAN - The Lambeth Lancers
proved too much for the Lucan Irish
to handle in the OHA Junior D pro-
vincial finals.
The Lancers swept the best -of -
seven series from the locals, taking
the final game 10-3 at the Lucan
Arena last Tuesday night.
The game that broke the back of
the Irish was the third game last
Sunday night, when the Lancers
scored four times in the last 10
minutes of play to take a 7-6 win
and a commanding three -games -to -
none lead in the series.
Irish coach Dave Revington felt
with a few breaks his team should
have been up two games to one af-
ter three games in the series. Before
stealing the third game, Lambeth
eaked out a 5-4 victory in the game
two as well.
"Lambeth stole the second game
in London, after winning the first
game rather easily. I thought we
should have won the second game
and the third game but they stole
that one from us too. We could
have just as easily been leading the
series at that point. I thought for
sure we would take the series to at
least six games," said Revington.
Revington also felt fatigue began
to play a factor with his team. The
Irish played 20 games in the 'first
three series while Lambeth did not
lose a game in the entire playoffs.
"We played too many games in
too few days," said Revington.
"I thought we should have had a
couple more days off between the
Tavistock series and the final just
too get a rest but I guess the OHA
wanted to get it over with. I also
thought we shouldn't have had to
play the first two games of the se-
ries in London. We were too lenient
when we negotiated the series," he
added
Lambeth won the coin toss for
home -ice advantage and when the
dates were announced, Lambeth was
awarded the first two and Lucan the
next two instead of alternating
games like had been done in previ-
ous series.
The Irish had been down three -
games -to -one in their two previous
series, against Exeter Hawks and
Tavistock Braves respectively and
won both of those series but
couldn't recover from the 3-0 deficit
facing them against Lambeth.
Lambeth led 3-1 after the fist pe-
riod and 6-2 after the second, but
Lambeth didn't let up in the third
period and poured in four more on
Lucan goalie Doug Haskett.
Brian Minhinnick led the Lancers
offence with a hat trick, John Gras-
so contributed a pair of goals and
Mickey Dupuis, Jack Dundas, Scott
Pepin, Gary Winger and Dean
Thomas chipped in with one goal
each.
Lucan was assessed 17 minor
penalties and a pair of majors on
one play to Tim Hayter, while
Lambeth played shorthanded for
only six minutes in the game, and
the Lancers took advantage by scor-
ing five of their last six goals while
Irish players were sitting in the
penalty box.
Scoring for the -Irish were; Tim
Hayter from Jon McEachern and
Paul Barnes, Jamie Pearce from
Rick Weishar and Dean Schram
from Glen Marshall.
The win is the second in a row
for Lambeth, who defeated the Exet-
er Hawks four -games -to -two in last
year's provincial finals.

the provincial Junior D championship series last Tuesday night at

and took the series in four -straight games. It was the second pro-

Lumley recovering from tendinitis
LAKELAND - Despite an 0-3
record, Lucan's Mike Lumley is
progressing nicely from shoulder
tendinitis that forced him to miss a •
trip north with the "AA" London
Tigers at the end of spring training
in Florida.
As a result of not pitching a lot
in spring training, Lumley began
the year in Class A Lakeland Ti-
gers, in the Detroit Tigers organiza-
tion. '
To go along with his 0-3 record,
Lumley has a respectable 3.38
earned run average in 16 innings
pitched, given up 21 hits, six
earned runs, walked eight and struck
out 10 while playing four games
for the Florida State League team.
"He's not letting things get him
down. Right now he is just trying
to get his strength back," said Mike
Lumley Sr. from his Lucan home
Sunday night.
"Mike has been throwing almost
every day down there, including
game situations and he is feeling
better all the time," said the cider
Lumley.
"Right- now its just a matter of
him getting his strength back in his
arm because he really had nothing.

Last Monday, the Panthers defeat-

difficulty controlling play. Scoring
for the Panthers were Pete Mc61Iis-
ter, Geoff Sanaers and Darryl Bea-
ver.
On Wednesday, the Panthers met
Listowel but took a disappointing
1-0 loss. The boys worked hard,
holding the Lords to a scoreless
clash until six minutes remained in
the game when Listowel scored to
leave the Panthers down 1-0. Al-
though the Panthers attempted to
catch their opponents, they fell 1-0.

On the weekend, South Huron

team attended an invitational soccer
tournament held at East Elgin Sec-
ondary School in Aylmer. Al-
though the girls didn't claim any
victories, the Panthers playeo ex-
tremely well.
The Panther's first opponent was
Dorchester. The Panthers carried the
play so much that their goalie, Lau-
rie Forrester, only received four
shots on goal in the game. Unfortu-
nately, one happened to get by For-
rester and the Panthers -fell 1-0 to
Dorchester.
In their second game in pool
play, the girls met Central Elgin
Secondary School. As in the first
game, the Panthers dominated play
but fell short 1-0.
This put the Panthers in third
place in their pool
In their final game of the day, the
Panthers met Regina Mundi of
London. The girls played a tough
'game and after regulation time the
game was scoreless.
In the shootout, the Panthers fell
