WWGHAM - Five members of
South Huron District High
School's Senior Badminton team
advanced to the Western Ontario
(W.O.S.S.A.) tournament after par-
ticipating in the Huron -Perth
Championships in Wingham on
Thursday.
Kim Crawford and Chris Camp-
bell became the Huron -Perth Mixed
.Doubles Champions over Listowel.
In the first round of play, the
Panthers defeated St. Marys. Their
next win was over Listowel "B" and
the pair then defeated Madill in the
semi-final match. The locals defeat-
ed Listowel "A" to become the
champions and advance to
W.O.S.S.A. this Saturday in Sar-
nia.

Molting Hawks
do well in
Florida
DAYTONA BEACH - The Exeter
Molting Hawks travelled to Dayto-
na Beach last week to participate in
•the Canadian Oldtimers Hockey As-
sociation World Cup.
They opened up the tourney on
Sunday with, a 4-3 win over the
Winnipeg Olden Boys.
Bob "Lips"Jones got Exeter's
first goal from Bob McDonald and
Peter McFalls.
Winnipeg tied it and went ahead
2-1 before Ernie Ahrens notched
two power play goals with assists
going to Scott Burton with two and
Jim Pfaff and Jack Chipchase gct-
ling single assists. Peter McFalls
then notched the winner with Bob
McDonald setting it up.
Glen Stire was strong. in goal.
Game two saw Exeter beat Ot-
tawa 6-1 with Peter McFalls scor-
ing twc?goals and Scott Burton, Er •
-
nie Yirens, Brian Hodgins and Bob
McDonald adding singles. Bob
Jones, Ernie Ahrens, Jack Chip -
chase and Bob McDonald each had
two assists, while Brian Hodgins
and Scott Burton added single as-
sists.
Game three saw them lost to
New Brunswick 4-0. .
It was their third game in 21
hours and they had little energy left.
The New Brunswick goalie played
superb to shut down the Molting
Hawks. •
This was the end of the round
robin and the Molting Hawks ended
up in a tic for fourth place with
Daytona Sharks who edged them •m
out on goal differential.
They then played' in the consola-
tion final against Winnipeg who
they had beaten earlier 4-3.
Although they played a strong
game, they were beaten 4-2.
Scott Burton scored both goals
for the Molting Hawks while Brian
Hodgins picked up a pair of assists.
New Brunswick went on to win the
division.
• The•Ocean Center was a beautiful
facility except that ice conditions
were poor and the building was ex-
tremely hot for playing hockey..
Having only 11 skaters made it
tough to have any energy.
The opening welcoming party and
the closing banquet Were excellent.
The Molting Hawks enjoyed their
stay at Daytona Beach. Theonly
casualty was Bob Jones who had a
lacerated lip from getting hit with a
puck. The only other problerrs
were a few headaches.

GRAND BEND.- One thousand
salmon fishermen ar' expected to
visit Grand Bend during May 10 to
14 Salmon Derby, hosted by Grand
Bend and Arca Chamber of Com-
merce.

nizers are hoping to attract a Title
Sponsor for 1990 by offering a
well nin Derby this year.
Plans for 1990 have not been an-
nounced yet but C of C President,
Dave Sheppard says "the success of
this years smaller trial run, could
mean the beginning of a major an-
nual 4-5 day event for fishermen
and their families."

number of outlets around the arca,
wherever a poster is displayed.

of play. Here, the Panthers contin-
ued to play well to take another win
over Stratford Northwestern to ad-
vance to the final match against
Listowel "A". Despite a loss
against the Blue Devils, the locals
will still be attending W.O.S.S.A.
on Saturday.
Heather Rideout and Laurie For-
rester also competed in Girl's Dou-
bles for South Huron. In the first
round, the pair defeated Mitchell
"A". Unfortunately, they came up
against the eventual champs, Lis-
towel "A", and were knocked out
into the other bracket where they
were defeated by Listowel "B".
In Girl's Singles, Barb Nedza
placed third for the Panthers and
will also attend W.O.S.S.A. Fol-
lowing a victory over Goderich "B",
Nedza fell to Central Huron in the
second round. In the other bracket,
Nedza defeated Mitchell but lost to
Listowel "A". This placed her third
which qualified her for W.O.S.S.A.
due to an injury to the silver medal-
' ist.
Brent O'Brien and Chad Miller
played Boy's Doubles for the Pan-
thers. After receiving a bye in the
first round of the tournament, the
pair was defeated by Central Huron
in the second round. In the other
bracket, the boys took a victory
over Mitchell "B" but were put out
by St. Marys in the next round.
Steve Selves and Ron Mosurin-
john also competed in Boy's Dou-
bles. In the first round of play, the
pair met Stratford Central "A".
Central took the win putting
Selves and Mosurinjohn into the
other bracket. Here, the boys took a
victory over Goderich "B" but lost
to St. Marys "A" in the next round.
Devon Shamblaw competed in
Boy's Singles for South Huron.
Shamblaw received a bye in the first
round of the tournament but was de-
feated by Stratford Central "A" in
the following round. In the other
bracket, Shamblaw also ran into
trouble, losing to Stratford Central
"B"
The team had an excellent day and
they are looking forward to some
good results on Saturday.
The Junior Panthers attend the
Huron -Perth Championships tomor-
row in Wingham.
