Juniors 4th in Western Regionals WEST LORNE'- The Exeter Jun- ior Kingctte teani ended their season on the April 1 weekend by partici- pating in the Western -Regional tournament held in West.Lorne. The tournament format was a two division• round -robin -with the - top two teams in each division ad- vancing -to the medal round: Competing -in their division with the Exctcr girls were teams from St. Thomas, Lambeth; Goderich and Seaforth.. - Exeter opened tournament play on Saturday morning against Lambeth and were out scored 13-6. -1 Fading. the scoring for-thc local giris was Julia Merrier with -three goals and an assist. Becci FarduhaLaddcd two goals and an assist, while- Jane Rowe scored once. - - 1 rffatly "Tryon added three assists, while Liz Coates and. Becky A1or- gan each assisted 011 a goal. Exeter rebounded Saturday after- noon with one of their. finest efforts of the year against a strong Seaforth club. Alter spotting the opposition a three -goal lead, the girls stormed back in the second half and pulled out a 4-3 victory cin the strength of two goats each from Memel- and Becky 1llorgan. In Sunday's game against Chide - rich, Exeter required a victory to ad- vance -to the medal round. However, they were unable to 1101(1 a 3-1 lead and managed onlya 3-3 tie. - This result left Exeter in a three- way tic for second place in their di- -vision with St. Thomas,and(' tc- rich with St. Thomas adva ‘g, due to a superior goal spread. - Despite this disappointment, the Exeter -girls enjoyed a very success- ful year. After finishing second in league play with a 7 and 3 record, they captured the. Huron Perth , championship. by going undefeated in,the six playoff games. Their overall record, including league, tournalilent and exhibition play Was 18 wins, 7;losses and 3 lies:. Coaches Fred Cook arid- Joyce --Morgan, in their first season as coaches, -were most inlpres:sccl with the dedication of the girls and the excellent support .and encourage- ment flrilvided by their parents. Hern's team ends 7th EDMONTON - Burlington's Ice Image skating team, which in - eludes former Exeter Skating Club team member Kelly Hcrn, placed seventh overall at the Canadian Na- tional Precision Championships which were held in Edmonton last. weekend: In the opening round of the com- petition on April 7, Ice Image • placed third in their division, which . meant they would advance to .the following round the .ext day. ' In that round, Ice image placed • fourth in their division, Missing a chance at thc finals by one placing: The top three teams each day and in each division. advanced to the fol- lowing round. • As a result of the third and fourtb place finish, Ito Image was seventh overall. • .�tiaid-.shc was pleased with didn't expect to do as well asthcy did, since most skaters on thc team are in their first year'skating at that level of competition. She also said she was happy to just compete at thc Nationals because snc aamrtted she never thought the team would advance as far as it did. Hem; a full-time science student at McMaster University, said she will likely be back on the Ice Im- age team again next season. Hcrn completed her skating sea- son on the weekend with the annu- al winter carnival for the Burling- ton Skating Club.
