First on the scene were members of the Crediton fire brigade,. but when they found out it was outside their territory they called for the Parkhill department. Scott said, " The Crediton fire- men had the blaze pretty well con- tained by the time we got there." " He estimated damage mostly from smoke and water at from $60,000 to $70,000. The Rutten farm is lo- cated at Lot 26, North Boundary Concession in the . township of McGillivray. The Parkhill chief concluded, " They were very fortunate to have smoke alarms and were alerted in time to avoid a tragedy." Farquhar represented the Mohawks,. George Pratt Sr. attended the meet- ing on behalf of the Hawks and Bill Brock and Tom McCann represented minor hockey. They all expressed concern about the Rec Centre staff putting the ice in too late at the start of the season and taking it out too soon at the end of the hockey season. The ice was not installed at the Rec Centre until late September and was taken out the last day of March, because of the Home and Garden Show that takes place every year in early April. The Mohawks had to play their entire OHA Senior B championship series against the Dresden LumberKings at the Lucan Arena because there was no ice available in Exeter. Had the Hawks or any minor hockey team still been alive at that time they too would have had to play at Lucan for the same reason. No decision was made by the board on this matter but said they first wanted to meet with the Opti- mist . Club, which sponsors the Home and Garden Stow, to see if they can come up with a solution that all parties will be happy with. The purpose of the deputation was to let the board know of the con- cerns by all parties regarding this situation and to try and come up with a suitable solution. tacting potential sponsors about mission. supplying a new unit.
