She had a pow- erful message about the responsi- bility of Christians in today's world in her topic "the Changing Posi- tion of the Organized Christian Church". She criticized the church for going along with popular opin- ion. "God needs you and me to bring some sanity to a world gone astray" she stated, and to tell Jesus' message of salvation. Many people are no longer familiar with the Holy Scriptures, few join Bible study groups. Critics say the church is outdated and irrelevant. Shirley's own Lutheran Church has been steadfast in upholding Bible teachings and declaring it the inspired word of God, but she criti- cized it and other organized church- es for being too political, having only people of wealth and power in its highest offices. Jesus didn't wait for the people to come to him, he went to them wherever they were. Shirley. feels deeply that church people have to go out to be with the world and meet the needs of people where they are. We have to make the church come alive for those who are seeking a meaningful relation- ship with God. In conclusion, she said that the organized church must Haberer on county board ZURICH - Fred Haberer of Zurich has been- appointed to the Huron County Housing Authority, Chavi- va Hosek, Minister of Housing, an- nounced recently.
