Irish drop opener to Braves
TAVISTOCK - "The Lucan Irish
didn'tet their Junior D division fi-
nal.off $to the start they would have
liked, after eliminating the Exeter
Hawks four games to three and in
double overtime in the deciding, to
advance to the next round.
The Irish lost .11-5 to the Tavis-
tock Braves to fall behind one game
to none in the best -of -seven divi-
sion final Friday night at the Tavis-
tock Community Centre.
"We outshot them 16-12 in the
first period and -end up behind 3-1.
after one period and they scored six
more times in the second period and
that was that," said Irish coach
Dave Revington. Lucan outshot Ta-
vistock 50-35 in the game but were
robbed on several occasions by
Braves' goalie Jeff Henrich
He added the final two Tavistock
goals were scottt into the empty
net after he pulled is goalie Doug
Haskeu. Haskctt was attempting -to
comeback after sitting out the Exet-
er series with torn knee cartilage,
which he suffered in the opening
round of the playoffs against the
Mitchell Hawks. Revington said
Haskett had been attending physio-
therapy to try and build the knee
and wanted to play so he put Has-
kett in the third period after the
game was already out of hand, to re-
place starting goalie Brad Judd.
Lucan got goals from Dean
Schram, Brian Schuyler, Dean
Doerr, Brad Muir and Jon McEach-
ern.
Scott Denomy, Muir, Kevin
Leitch, Rick Weishar, Doerr, Jamie -
Pearce and Schram all chipped in
with single assists.
Brian Eaton lead .the Braves with
five goals, Mark Albrecht chipped
in with a pair and singles were
scored by Steve Hagendorn, Nick
Vanbury, Dave Campbell and Ray
Petrie.
Revington added, for the Irish to
get back into the series, they can't
afford to be giving up 11 goals each
game and expect to win.
Game two of the series was
scheduled for the Lucan Arena last
night, Tuesday, with game three
also in Lucan Friday night at 8:15
p.m. Game four is scheduled back
in Tavistock Sunday afternoon
