The team also attended the highly competitive Taint Badminton Championships' in Strafford on Thursday. i Icrc, the Junior Panthers fell to Lir-subtle C'ollegc of Chat- ham in the semi-final round of the tournament. South Huron's Senior team lost their first two rounds to Bishop MacDonnell of Guelph and Strat- ford Northwcstcrn, putting thein out.of the tournament. The Junior Panthers, however, defeated Tillsonhurg .in the first round and Stratford Northwcstcrn in the second to advance to the semi- final round against Ursulinc Col- lege. Unfortunately, SH lost a tough round 3-2. Lucan won Saturday's contest by a 5-2 count to take a two-games-to- onc Icad in the best -of -seven scrics, but Haliburton bounced back to shutout Lucan 6-0 Sunday after- noon to deadlock the scrics. in Saturday's game, Lucan led 2-0 after onc period and 4-1 after the second, while each team scarce once in the final frame. Lucan captain Paul O'Shea opened the scoring in that game from Scott Smith and Brian Beck- man and Nathan Brown's from a shot from the point was deflected by Jcff Campbell shortly after to give Lucan their 2-0 lead. In the second period, O'Shea picked up his second when the puck was knocked off Matt Munro's stick and onto his after Munro had made a nice rush to the net. Joey Hitchcock stuffed the puck into -the net to give Lucan a 4-0 lead, with Doug Hotson picking up the only assist. Haliburton finally- got on the Men's night starts April 25 EXETER - Male golfers have just two weeks to get ready for the sea- son. Men's night at Ironwood Golf Club will officially begin Tuesday April 25, but if thc weather co- operates there will be a practice day at the golf course a wcck before, Tuesday April 18, to get their swing back into shape after a long winter. Thc league is also looking for new members this year. The cost of a membership is $35, which will include the wrap-up dinner at the end of the season and prize money during thc season. Thc season will last 20 weeks, with play every Tuesday, but atten- dance is not mandatory cvcry wcck. Most of thc sponsors that have given prizes in the past will bc back for another season according to Larry Johns of the Men's League. If anybody needs more informa- tion about joining the Mcn's League they can contact Johns at 235-1209. board shortly before the second peri- od was over when Jonathan Bishop tallied from Greg Stamp and Corbie Kent. , Stamp made it a 4-2 game when he scored for Haliburton early in the second period and pressed in the last two minutcs to get closer but Lu - can goalie Marty Hodgins held Hal- iburton off and Heckman scored into an empty nct with just one second left on the clock to close out the scoring. Haliburton 6 Lucan 0 Haliburton scored twice in each of the three periods to get even in the scrics on Sunday. The Morissette brothers, twins Mark and Kevin, proved too much" for Lucan in this game. Kevin picked up five points in the game, thrcc goals and two assists, while Mark chipped in with four assists. Jeff Black, Mark Stamp and Cor - hie Kcnt chipped in with the other Haliburton goals and Stamp had a pair of assists, and single assists went to Jcff Black and Andy Bill- ings. Haliburton goalie Peter Brohman picked up the shutout but didn't have to make too many saves as his defence blocked many shots in front of him. Lucan did come close to scoring on onc occasion. Brohman stopped O'Shea slap shot from the ,blucline, but the puck trickled be- tween Brahman's legs and was head- ing for thc goal line but the referee had whistled the play dcad because he lost sight of the puck. Gan* five in thc scrics will be. played Saturday at 3 p.m. in Hali- burton, while game six is set back at the Lucan at 3 p.m. Sunday after- noon.
