A film strip, Mandela, was
shown by Lillian Douglas and Lu-
cie Milne. It focussed on the lives
of women in South Africa where
the women and children have to live
on the reserves while the father
lives and works in town.
Most women not only have to
look after the children, but also
have to do all the farming. In order
to support their families some
mothers have to leave them at
home while they go to tow,n to
work as domestics. Some domestics
have formed a workers' organization
to bargain with employers and -the
government. Some have also joined
their husbands to fight apartheid and
have resisted strongly the govern-
ment's attempts to make them carry
pass books which limit their move-
ment in the arca. .
The meeting, closed with the
all to h inn, "And Can it Bc"
