Pee Wees split first two IIALIBURTON - The Lucan Pee Wccs split the first two games of their best -of -seven All -Ontario "DD" finals in Haliburton on the weekend. The locals lost the opening game 6-3 Saturday but bounced back Sunday to take a 4-3 win. In Saturday's contest, each team scored once in the first period but Lucan surrendered three third -period goals, while they were only able to score once in each period. Haliburton got on the board first, but Lucan's Shawn Fairweather tied it later in the first when his shot deflected off Haliburton goalie Pe- ter Brolunan and into the net. Paul O'Shea put Lucan in front with an unassisted goal early in the second period , but Haliburton scored twice later that period to take a 3-2 lead heading to the third. Lucan drew even once again early in the third when Brian Heckman scored from O'Shea but Haliburton tallied three times later that period, once into the empty net. This was a well -played game with end-to-end action and only five penalties were called to both sides. Marty Hodgins made some great stops in the Lucan net to keep the score respectable. Molting Hawks season over CLINTON - The Exeter Molting Hawks wrapped up their regular sea- son on Sunday night in Clinton, thumping the Fowl Ups 13-5: Veterans Bill Pincombc and Ernie Ahrens led the way with hat tricks each, Brian Hodgins and Scott Bur- ton each added two while Bob McDonald, Peter McFalls and Jack Chipchase each had one. Bob McDonald was the assist leader as he picked up five. Jim Pfaff, Brian Hodgins and Jack Chip - chase each had three assist, while Scott Burton and Peter McFalls ca:h had a pair. Bill Pincombc, Kc.n Bergmann and Ernie Ahrcns added single assists. The Molting Hawks play at Day- tona Beach Florida in the World Cup Tournament starting April 8 with a welcoming Budweiser party at the Ocean Centre. They start play on Sunday at 3 p.m. against the Winnipeg Olden Boys. At 9 p.m. on Sunday they play the Ottawa Old Stars while Monday at 12 p.m. they play New Brunswick Old Pros. Consolation and championship games arc the following Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a wind up banquet and awards night on Satur- day. The Molting hawks are in the Schenley Division with three groups and 11 teams. Players making the trip are Glen Stire, Jack Chipchase, Phil Turner, Jim Pfaff, Eric Finkbeincr, Scott Burton, Bob Jones, Peter McFalls, Brian Hodgins, Bob McDonald and Ernie Ahrens. Molter Notes: Bob Jones left for Florida a week early to get in some dry land training. - Eric "Chromy" Finkbeiner is re- covering from a shoulder injury. His playing status is unknown at press time. Jack Cleave has been signed as interim coach as Wayne Pearce could not make the trip. Cleave says he will try to mold the team like the Bruins. This is the second World Cup for Jim Pfaff and Scott Burton as they went to Germany last year with East London sports. LUCAN 4 HALIBURTON 3 Lucan took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Matt Mun- ro on an end-to-end rush and Sean Lawrence stuffed in a rebound from an O'Shea shot and Lucan never trailed from thatpoint although Haliburton did tie the game twice in the third. Haliburton's Jonathan Bishop scored the only.goal of the second when he blocked a Lucan shot from the point and went in on a breaka- way. Haliburton tied the game early in the third on Greg Stamp's goal, but one minute later Lucan went back out in front on O'Shea's goal from Jamie Lightfoot. Haliburton tied it once more on Mike Billings goal, but Lucan went back out in front for good when Collin Kowalchuck scored from Brian Heywood. Mark Hickson played this game between -the pipes for Lucan and performed very well. - Game three of the series will be played at the Lucan Arena Saturday at 7 p.m. and game four goes Sun- day afternoon at 1 p.m. Games five and six will also be played in Lu - can. Game five is scheduled for Sat- urday April 15 at 5 p.m. and if game six is needed it will go Sun- day April 16 at 1' p.m. and if it goes the distance, game seven will be played back in Haliburton April 22.
