Minor hockey president criticizes T -A report Dear Sir: In the March 15, 1989 edition of the Times Advocate Jim Beckett, in his 'On the Street' article made reference to a game involving two peewee teams from Exeter Minor Hockey. This patticular game was called by the referees prior to its comple- tion. The executive of Exeter Minor Hockey feels the report was inac- curate and left your readers with the wrong impression. The suspension of the game was not caused by the actions of our players. Reports to the executive indicate that the two teams were in- volved in a well -played game and the game was called when a coach was ejected and a team official was not available to run the team. In accordance with OMHA rules the referee advised the teams that the game was called and the execu- tive supports this decision. Regrettably, the report in the TA reflected badly on our players and it is our wish to set the record straight. Too often the media stresses the negative reports of minor hockey and does, not report on its many benefits to our young players. It is unfortunate that more attention was not given to our recent tyke tournament where all the enthu- siasm and excitement exhibited by five and six year old players dem- onstrated what- minor hockey is all about. Our teams played in excess of 600 games this season and the in- cident reported was very much the exception.
